Sold my RX8 tonight!!!
This is an extension of another thread I started regarding the horrific trade-in value the dealers are extending. Well, I've had my car posted in cars.com for just under 3 weeks and I sold it to the first person that came to see it. I sold it for $25K which is $1K less than I owe but $5K better than the dealers were offering on trade-in. Talking to a couple of dealers about a replacement...either a 2006 GTO or a 2006 Mustang GT. I'll keep you guys posted as I'll remain an active member of this forum.

congratulations (i think?) on selling your rx-8. it is indeed good news that you got 25k for it.
goat vs mustang GT...hmmmmm tough call.
i love the goat's power and interior, but the mustang styling is "better", albeit seen everywhere.

Just make sure your ride is extremely clean. The people that bought it kept going on and on about how clean and well taken care of it was. They were cross-shopping a Crossfire and liked my Shinka waaaaay more. I am really excited over the GTO because I just found out from my Insurance company that the goat is $37 cheaper than the RX8 every 6 months (GTO = $629, RX8=$656). The Mustang GT is a little more than the RX8 at $690. Either way I was very surprised that the rates were so close. Now I just gotta find a GTO for about $28K which might not be too hard considering I get GM employee discount through an uncle.

Do not buy the GOAT, I tell you this because I work at a dealership. You think your RX-8 loses resale value. Think about it man, its a pontiac (the name kills the value enough), and the GTO is getting ready to be axed by GM. To be replaced by the new Camaro, and possibly a new GTO. Along with RWD Impala and MonteCarlo. You'll thank me later!
Now, if your planning to keep it for awhile. Like 6 years or something then by all means, get the GTO! Its a fast car, my friend has one.

I agree that the GTO has better factory power and a waay nicer interior. I am leaning towards the goat......but I am a Mustang guy at heart and I really want to get the Cervinis C500 conversion one day. Decisions.....decisions.

I prefer the Cervinis C500......but to each his own. I agree the Shelby GT500 is a vast improvement from the GT.

You're going for a brand new goat?
Man you should def. get a goat for a good price seeing as how they sell worse than the 8 and that the news has been out for a while they they are being discontinued. I feel bad for the LS1 goat owners, they'll never sell 'em.

No no, just the Shelby GT. Not the GT500. You know the full production version of the GT-H.

Around here they are both on every corner......that is one thing I will miss the most about the RX8.....no one knows what it is......but they like it
I'll be happy to get back into some low-end torque again.

Actually, I can convert my GT over to a GT-H with my connections at Ford.....so that is always an option. Actually, I have one dealer that really wants to clear-out the '06 Roush Mustangs they have to make room on their lot.....they are willing to give me their cost to get rid of them. That is definitely something to think about. I have to get the VIN from one to make sure it doesn't raise the insurance rate.

Why don't you buy a pre-owned goat like a couple of years old. You'll get it dirt cheap. Pre-owned the way to go baby! I got my rx-8 six months ago for 18k, and it only had 8,000 miles on it, and it was a Grand Touring, 6 speed with nav. I'm telling you man! Save your money and get it pre-owned.

Also, one last thing, if you decide to buy it pre-ownwed, buy it from a GM dealership. Also the price that they ask can be haggled with big time with used cars. Go on KBB and see what the tarde in value is (GOOD). Then offer them that for the car.

I work for Ford and would rather have the GTO
But in the end it's gonna come down to who has the better deal. Ford is offering 0% for 72 months.....the Pontiac dealer is going to get back to me about the longest term they'll run at 0%. If everything is equal as far as price is concerned.....then I'll get the GTO.

GM is offereing 0% loans in my area on the GTO.....dealer is getting back to me about the term (60-month, 72-month)....so yeah, I'm looking at a new GTO. Ford is offering the 0% 72-month through labor day so unless the Pontiac dealer can match the price, I'll probably be getting a Stang. I know I can pick one up for $28K....but I really want to finance at 0% for 72-months to keep the pmt lower. I already had to pay $1K out of pocket just to get out of the RX8.

I will. I've called a few dealers and they don't even want to let you off the phone. It's a really good time to be in the market for a V8 car in MI. One dealer was practically begging me to buy a Roush telling me that if I actually come into the dealer she might be able to give me whatever price needed to get the deal done. That would be sweet.....but only if the insurance rate is the same as a regular GT.
