So whats the problem with front license plates?
This is not a thread about getting in trouble for not having one on. Im acctually wondering if it really has any harm in being on. Does it cause the engine to overheat easier, or is it just that people think its ugly? I personally just put my personalized plates on today, and i acctually really like the looks of it. So just wondering if anyone ahs had any problems with the front plate at all.
it does not block anything. behind it is a faux grill. look at it closely and you see that it is solid.
the grill under the license plate has the holes punched out though.
most of the air intake is through the lower opening in any regard.
it does look ugly.

The reason people don't want front plates on the RX-8 and many other cars is because it's ugly. It's that simple.
Not all cars are ugly with a front plate; the 8 is. Frankly I don't know why designers don't take the front plate into account when designing cars primarily for the US market. Cars like the 8 look like the front plate was added at the last moment with no designer input.

Japan needs front plates too. so u cant really say they never "thought" about it.
is that legal? i wonder if the plate needs to show in its entirety. i bet a cop would be much less inclined to give you a ticket though...b/c at least your number is showing.
well in some cases some people actually cut their plates but thats a felony for destroying state property and can face prison time, in this case it was carefully bent back, in no way destroying the plate, and its not like the front plates show the month and year of expiration so as long as the number shows i think its good.

In at least one of these threads somebody showed a retractable plate mechanism. IMHO, if you don't like the look of a front plate that's the real solution. If you get stopped, you push the button to lower it while the cop is striding from his car to your front window. When he says he stopped you for no front plate, you look puzzled and say "What are you talking about?"
As long as he has not seen too many Abott and Costello haunted house movies, you should be fine.

The plate does not belong to you. It belongs to the state DMV. Bending the license plate is like defacing a traffic sign. You will get pwnd by the cops who is not having a good day.
BTW, are those euro plates legal? I keep seeing them on veedubs especially old jettas and golfs.

of course they are not legal, i mean u can have them on, but u also have to have ur state placards. The ones on the S2k i post pics of are not Euro plates they are Cali plates bent in half.
