So.. redline or not??

It has been my understanding that even if redlining for brief periods of time, it is still better than only running at low rpm. The high centrifugal forces at high rpm play a key role in keeping the apex seals moving freely and able to keep a good seal with the housing.

There are "shutter valves" in the intake manifold that should be excersised fairly often else they will crud up and stick. They open in a programmed sequence depending on rpm, the last opening at ~7200 rpm (which will show on the tach more like 7500 rpm). Shifting at 8,000 or so every once-in-a-while is probably a good thing. However, don't rev super high on a cold engine, nor while sitting still in a driveway! It takes ~ 20 minutes of driving in above-freezing weather to get the oil temps up.

I redline about 3x a week. But kinda hard to say exactly how many redlines.(depends on my mood) given I drive it about 4 days of the week. But when I do, one beep is never enough IMO with proper maintenance, 91 octane+, and running it hard every now and then with engine fully warm shouldn't be a problem

You're kinda right. But the way I understand it it works like this. The E-shaft turns at 9000 rpm but the rotors themselves turn at 3000. Or vice versa lol. I'm not sure now

That is correct the E shaft (eccentric shaft) turns at 3 times the speed of the rotor in RPM but the rotor moves up and down and side to side as it rotates also. But that is why the rotory sounds so smooth at 6000 rpm when a piston engine sounds like it is going to explode. Your tachometer shows you E shaft speed.

Redline it. There's a reason the redline is 9k. It can probably handle 12k but Mazda like every other car manufacturer puts the cars through hundreds of reliability tests to test failure modes. The 8 probably has a failure rate of less than 1% at 9,000 rpm. This rate is probably still low, say less than 10% at 12,000 rpm. It's not wise as a corporation to release a product with a high failure rate so they "de-tune" the car.
It's the same reason the 16x can easily crank out 350+ hp but we will probably only see 300. They de tune cars to meet reliability standards (and probably fuel economy targets now).

why does everyone keep talking about 12k and 13k? Talking theoretical limits with no proof that they're possible doesn't prove your point.
The reason we have a 9k readline is because the car stops making power around 8200-8500. There is no reason to rev much higher if the car is falling on its face.
bse50, dozer, and HiFlite999 have already answered the op's question. Lets not keep adding useless guesses.

It may start falling on its face but it sounds awesome.
Cheers!
