Street race leaves one dead, another on life support
Published: Tuesday, August 05, 2008
METRO VANCOUVER - Police are recommending charges of impaired driving and dangerous driving against the 30-year-old driver of a car that pulled over after being involved in a street race that turned deadly late Monday night.
The 38-year-old driver of a second car that fled from police and crashed into a deep ravine on Nordel Way near Brook Road was in serious condition on life support in Royal Columbian Hospital.
The driver was thrown from the vehicle when it left the road, but his passenger died when the car burst into flames.
Police were using DNA samples and dental records to positively identify the passenger.
Delta Police observed two vehicles travelling at a high rate of speed southbound on Scott Road at 11 p.m. Monday evening.
They were able to stop one vehicle but the second car sped away, according to police.
The fleeing vehicle struck a third car on Nordel Way between Shepherd Way and Brook Road in North Delta. It lost control, ploughed through a metal guard rail and plummeted into the heavily wooded ravine.
The car exploded into flames upon impact. The passenger was declared dead at the scene.
Traffic was closed in both directions on Nordel Way until 10:15 a.m., when the crash car was extricated from the dense undergrowth.
On Tuesday afternoon Delta Police issued a warning to drivers not to be lured into street racing.

yes, but the rx8 makes it possible for the amature without crashing. Sometimes I feel I should be wearing a carsh helmet. That's how fast this car is on the curves. It's intoxicating.
