sliver = unluckly ?
So what is this thing I have read here and there saying that Silver is an unluckly color for an rx8?
Did something happen at the plant when they first came out with this color or was it the main color in 04 when the new model came out and they had startup problems?
Less maybe it is just fork lore and not based in any truth. After all, the color of a car should have no relation to if it runs ok without issues right?
Then again, my was given to me without the auto gear shift lights working...
Silver/red & black interior auto g/t.
p.s. would have gotten the appearance package but it pickings were slim last month when it occured to me to switch from the mx5 to the rx8.
And to think they had one of those special additions rx8 in the show room back when I got my mx5. Of course I did not care for the seude/leather combo in that car at the time but the black cherry? color was really nice.

Naw, the whole "curse of silver" thing has to do with the amount of silver RX8s that get into accidents. Its more or less just superstition and fun! No real truth behind it. Its said that silver is unlucky because a majority of wrecked RX8s are silver Shoulda got velocity red!!!haha

The most popular car colors are white, black, and silver, world-wide. The rankings change from year-to-year but it's usually these three. So, statistically you would expect more accidents with cars of those colors than other colors simply because there are more of them on the road.
However, I did manage to find the results of one study done about three years ago that showed that while silver cars were the most numerous for that year, they actually had a much lower accident rate than about a half a dozen other colors. No attempt was made to explain the disparity for that production year, though they mentioned that it would be interesting to try and correllate buyer personalities with color preferences. I'm sure if that work was ever done, the insurance industry would be all over it.
I haven't been able to find results for other years unfortunately; that group only studied the stats for one particular year. Based on that study alone, it would seem that silver is the "safest" color.
Not being suprstitious, I think it's a load of BS. I have a SS, but the only wrecked RX-8 that I've ever seen with my own eyes was GG. I've owned other silver cars and never wrecked any of them. My wife has managed to wreck a blue car and a red car since we've been married, neither one an 8. No, she doesn't drive my 8.
