Sirius Question

Hey guys.

I'm looking at buying a 2005 RX8 with SAT ready head unit (head unit has SAT button).

What else needs to be installed to get sirius in the car?

How much would it cost to have a dealer do it?

Thanks.

Kevin

You would need the sat tuner, antenna, and have someone install it.

I think the tuner is like $300. Not sure on the install. You may be able to get a tuner online for less and find a specialist to install it. May be cheaper than a dealer.

The tuner (typically installed in the trunk) and the antenna (typically installed on the trunk lid).

Get an auto-radio installer to do it. I would think cheaper install and better deal on components. The toughest part is the cable install from trunk to head unit (typically fore-aft console passage).

Does anyone know where the antenna connects to the head unit? I need to replace my antenna but the wiring kind of disappears in the side of the trunk. I would rather not blindly take out the carpet to find it.

The SAT tuner is in the trunk, drivers side, behind the carpet...it will be zip tied to some braces. From there, that unit connects to the HU (assuming they followed manufacturer recommendations) via a cable that runs under the rear seat, all the way along the side into the dash to the back of the head unit. When I installed mine, we ran that cable thru the center console to the trunk. You will have to remove the HU (which means removing the glove box as well) to get the cable plugged in. Running down the center console was not that tough, we just took it apart, made sure it was well run and not in the way, and I've had no problems for 2 years. as far as the Sirius unit - I'd check the for sale section here - I bought mine used for like $150.
