Angry Side swiped

Had a car accident tonight. My car is okay, but my friends GSR is totaled. We were driving on the left lane on a 3 lane one way road. A guy driving a truck in the lane adjacent to us decided it would be a good idea to try and cut infront of me and turn at the approaching street instead of just missing his exit and coming back. In the process of cutting me off, he sideswiped my friends GSR. The GSR slid into the curb, the axle snapped, and he bounced off the curb heading toward the right side of the street. At this time, the truck hit his breaks when he made contact with the GSR. I hit my breaks also, but it was raining and I slid into the back of his truck. His trailer hitch went through my hood and bumper. As I looked up, I saw my friend's GSR then hop the curb on the other side of the street, wipe out a speed limit sign, and then spin around back to the left side of the street. The GSR is totaled, my car has minor damage. The truck was messed up a bit in the back where I collided with him. He also sustained damage where he hit the GSR. The GSR rear passenger door was smahed in on the right side and the wheel came off and went under the car on the left side where it made initial impact with the curb. I practically peed on myself because the person driving the GSR is a close friend, and seeing your close friend getting sideswiped by a truck is not fun at all. The police came, and there were a couple of nice witnesses who stuck around. They determined that the truck was at fault for both accidents because he tried to turn without signaling from the middle lane. If he would have waited, he would have hit me and not my friend. Its good that no ones hurt though. I'm glad. Talk to you guys later.

I wouldn't mind getting a nice CF hood. I take it when your hood is smashed, they replace the whole thing?

How old was the truck driver?

Sorry to hear about you and your friend, but the truck driver deserves to be at fault for this one.

Can we get pics of your bumper/hood?

He looked like he was in his 20s. I really couldn't tell. I'll take some pics later, but right now I don't feel like looking at my car.

$1800

I got an estimate done at a local bodyshop. Atleast I don't have to pay for it since I wasn't at fault. I'll get some pictures up of the front end damage later. I still get sick when I look at it.

that sucks, but at least everyone is ok (they are, right?) and it could be worse. you car could have had a lot of structual damage done to it, but if its only costing $1800, it sounds like it is just cosmetic, which is good.

That phrase, "local body shop" scares me because not everyone knows how to paint cars. If I were you, I would find who the local dealer uses if they do not have their own shop. This way if you have problems, you can have the dealer behind you.

We have one local dealer and they are awful. They painted my rear bumper when I had my infamous curb accident back in August. Its like they didn't even try to blend it. It barely matches the car and they told me its just like that. I think I am going to buy a carbon fiber hood and get a Mazdaspeed bumper for the front. Will the Mazdaspeed bumper look weird without the rest of the kit?

I would not have accepted sloppy paint work. Matching can be done right. Perhaps next time try a reliable body/fender shop like a one that posts progress on the internet with your car and others. Your friend was lucky. Getting hit by a big rig is often deadly. Those trucks are like Army tanks and it takes a lot to stop one. Any car or SUV has not chance against a big rig.

I don't think it was a big rig. I think it was just your standard pickup being driven by the standard dumb *** in a pickup.
