350z or mustang gt sounds better for u, not trying to be a dbag just being honest. The vq35 engine in the z is a very reliable engine; and its faster in straight lines and better mpg. I like the rx8 better but its not for everyone IMO.

For all intensive purposes it's technically a 2.6 liter in terms of how fast it burns gas since it makes 2 revolutions for every 1 revolution a piston engine does.

What are the average mpg's for these cars? And what about average 1/4 times? (I know they're not meant to be straight line fast, and i'm not really only looking for something fast, just trying to get an idea.)
THanks

What? You asked about the handling. And I always hate me some neon when I get the chance.
Anyway, the best quarter time you can expect is about 14.5@ 97-99ish. And that's if you're really good at launching without wheel hop. Mpg varies from as low as 14 to as high as 24. Depends on the year, software version, and individual car.

If you do all highway driving, you'll probably get more than 20 mpg. Just adding one trip on the highway of about 70 miles boosted my mpg by 3-4 at least. The worst mileage comes from short distances. If you drive more than 10 miles each time you turn the engine on you'll probably break 15 and can hope to go as high as 18 maybe. If it's all stop and go at street lights expect 15-16.
Again the worst for mileage is short distances in the winter; the engine wastes more gas when it's cold - all cars do.

The 8 is a very good ride for the money but if I had to do it all over again I'd pass on it. I love to drive it but the gas mileage on these cars suck. If you modify one it will only get worse. I'm lucky if I get 270 miles from a full tank while driving on the highway.
Buy something else.....especially if you plan on going home alot.

that sounds like a pretty telling comment. Sounds like the 8 don't make a good college car.
And really, spare yourself all the hate crimes too. You're going to be finding your car keyed and the side mirrors knocked off, whatever, by drunk college kids willing to screw someone's stuff up just because it's nice. Methinks, wait till you can park it somewhere less volatile than a college campus maybe.

If you're looking for speed, the RX-8 is not the car for you. Last I heard, 340whp is the most anyone had on a Renesis engine. Much less than that in the torque department.
