Should I change my oil?

I got my 8 in October '04, stored it for the winter and took it out again about 2 mo ago. It has 1400 kms on it - I usually change my vehicles around 5000 km. But because of the time, should I get it done?

Yes, especially storing it for the winter in Canada with the extreme temps. I wouldn't think twice about over changing the oil as cheap as it is...

1400Km? So, you haven't put any miles on the car... Don't worry about it :p

Seriously, oil changes are usually distance or time, whichever comes first. Cold weather and temperature fluctuations cause condensation internally. Not getting up to operating temp can cause other problems, even allow bacteria to grow and degrade the oil. I'd give it a drive to get everything hot and into suspension, and then change the oil (careful of hot components).

Every new car I have gets an oil change around 500 to 800 miles.

Gets rid of the junk from the initial break in.

Would it not be best to follow what the manufacture says on the first change. This is the breakin oil formula! Then after that you can change it as early as you want. What do you think??

I did the same. Changed it around 1500 to get rid of all the break-in junk and i'm going to follow the hard driving recommendations even though i'm not in an extreme climate.

I first changed mine at 3,000 miles ~4800km
I don't think time should be a factor for changing oil, it's not like the oil is doing anything if the car's off.

Do you EVER drive your car??

It never hurts to change the oil, so if you are worried, why not just swap it out. It'll only cost you $20 or so, unless you know how to do it yourself.

I got winter tires for it, but there was too much snow on the ground to get it done - my wife was on mat leave, so I had our Pathfinder to myself anyway.

Now, anytime we go anywhere, we bring the aforementioned baby, and his seat has to be turned around backwards which doesn't work too well in the RX8. I'm waiting for him to turn 1 year old so we can turn him around.

Right now I only take it to work which is about 2 km away.

That's the hardest part of life for oil/engine. I would change it, and that would then fall into the harsh category for change cycles. Starting the engine is about the worst thing you can do to it.
