should i buy?

Ok well i am looking at buying an 04 mazda rx8 6spd. I am a college student and i was just wondering if you guys think i should buy it or not. i am also looking at an 03 evo but the rx8 costs about $6k less. i have always heard how the rx7 rotaries were unreliable...has mazda fixed that? any help is welcomed. thanks

Depends what you want...AWD FI sounds nice...

Evo is probably twice as fast, but the 8 is 3 times more fun to drive, so you're still coming out on top

I'd go for the 8 for sure. Most of the people I know that drive evo's are all douchebag streets racers, and you don't want to be one of those.

Not to mention it's 6k cheaper, and if you're really looking for a faster car like the evo, you could get the 8 and spend that 6k on a Turbo kit from Greddi(y?), they run around 5k for the turbo plus the recommended upgrades you should do for the car to keep it running smoothly. And even then you'd still come out on top with 1k left to spend on the premium gas you'll probably be using to fuel your FI monster

thats exactly what i was thinking. and the previous owner of the evo seems to have already been raceing. it has a batter relocation kit and no spare or jack . i definatly like the fact that the rx8 is completely stock and untouched. i was just making sure my seals werent gonna go a month after i bought it....the rx8 is easily in better condition

As far as I know they're a lot more reliable now. I visit the forums fairly frequently and I haven't heard much about people having seals breaking and such.

IMO, best bet would be to get the 8, espcially since it will be under factory warranty, even it's an 04 it's still covered for another 5 months =)

As far as the Evo, the description you gave...Given that it's an 03, and you say you're already missing things from it and the guy raced it, I wouldn't buy it...You never know, he might not have taken good care of it then a few months down the road you see a piston blow through the hood (Over-exaggeration), and I'm not sure about Mitsubishi's factory warranty...but it if it's as short as Mazda's, then you're looking at spending your own money on getting it fixed.

Financially the smarter move is to get the 8.

But if you're into racing and things like that, then the evo would be more your style.

lol the rx8 is used BUT at a pontiac dealership who is offering a warranty on it. (not sure if its factory). the evo has no factory warranty on it but the used dealership said they have warranties (never confirmed that they would actually give me one on it). i think my mind is made up on the rx8 though. i mean i dont go out and street race every weekend...but like everyone else in the road ill occasionally see someone at a stop light and get that urge to go. i know the rx8 isnt the fastest thing in the world. but it is a nice start for a project i think.

if you are worried about money the evo may cost 6k more up front but the insurance on it is twice as much my insurance if i were to switch would go from 600 every 6 months to 1200 with a clean record
