Just make sure you don't go cheap and get all the proper guages/ maps/engine management to monitor eerything and u should have not problems

Turbocharging your car will affect the reliability regardless of which route you go unless you do it form the ground up including a built motor, with all the trimmings. And even then if you push teh card hard on a regular basis you will have problems. The renesis is no SR20.

There's not much you can "build" on this motor. Maybe fatter apex seals but that is it.

Of course lifespan is going to be affected in someway but why can't it be reliable with a safe conservative tune and with a hint of common sense on the drivers part?

Because the compression is too high.

And the extra heat will kill the motor.

Agreed... ..the rx8 reminds me of the FC rx7's modest power and with proper maintence and relabilty mods 100k-200k + out of the engine. As to the topic the 8 just doesnt have the optimal comression for a turbo.

I would love to someday build the renesis from the ground up with FI, lower compression rotors, better heat managment, proper ignition and fuel set up, etc. and make use of the the multi side ports.

Don't get me wrong guys i really want to go turbo but if it means f'n up my engine id prolly skip so im gonna take jedi54's advice and get a compression test done on the motor. There should be nothing wrong since I bought the car last May from a dealership who had papers showing it was inspected from the local Mazda dealership, which i later called to make sure everything was good with the car whent they inspected it. I dont abuse my 8, there may be some spirted driving, or autocrossing in store this summer thats it. I think the greddy turbo kit with the e manage ultimate, upgraded couplers, new spark plugs, greddy oil pan, oil catch can, cobb accessport, any necessary gauges, greddy type-r bov and upgraded fuel managment should do. I'll prolly switch to royal purple oil aswell i hear its better.

you won't need an emanage ultimate if you have the accessport. also look into new coils from BHR and ditch the type RS BOV for an HKS SSQV or synapse synchronic.

A tuner shop once told me the compression is too high in the 8's for turbo. 2) I also heard if going turbo you should do it when the engine is new. That way the engine is broke into with that kind of power. If you were to do it now...the engine ran most of it's life the way it is then all of a sudden it's like WHOA. and 3) No matter what...when doing these kind of performance mods, your gonna have problems.

look into getting a supercharger. I hear the owners of them think the boost created by a SC is softer than TC boost, therefor they are immune to any physical damage. Sort of an invincibility force field, if you will.

You can tell who feels this way by looking at their *** backwards sigs that point out "seal damage from turbochargers" while they slowly work their way up to 200 lbs of torque.

The apex seal damage was definitely caused by the engine operating, however. Turbocharged or Supercharged, the boost either plays a role or it doesn't, but the end result is engine failure.

don't be silly. boost can either be "HARD" or "SOFT", it depends on which way you turn the dial on your GReddy Type-S BOV.

The dial on the GReddy Type-S BOV is well known to be incompliant with ISO-9001 standards which must be adhered to when using a HARD boost, which is why the setting is sent stock for SOFT boost. The difference in SC and TC is more dependent on which BOV dial settings you use for the control.

WARNING: Do not install your turbo backwards. It ends up making your exhaust your intake and you will suck in unfiltered air that way.

Remember that unless you have a 3" catless midpipe, backwards installation will greatly hinder performance as mysql says. However, with the catless midpipe you will get much more cold air being sucked in and unfiltered, which is always best.

the problem is smoke inhalation cause the exhaust vents through the intake.

the cool side effect is you can rev it and blow flames FORWARD at people. Love it when pedestrians are crossing in front of me and I set them on fire. quit walking, RUN damn it.

That definitely gives new meaning to the term "hot rod", as the front bumper is like a hot rod ramming into their asses.

To be on the safe side, don't go into public places if you have reverse installed your turbo.

If you are going to turbo the car just make sure you have a good tuner lined up makes a world of difference

NO.

ALL YOU NEED IZ THE NAWZ, IT REMOVES THE boost from the INTAKE MANIfold and PUTS it on your EXHAUST so you need 4" PIPES all FROM THE block and BOOM! You'll have ULTRANAWZTURBOCHARGE MAYhEm n the BIAtCHES will RUN For your AWERSOME DRIFTINGz.

The NAWZ kit of 250HP SHOT will definitely do as you said, but use as directed and note that severe side affects may occur such as drowsiness and fuel pump constipation.
