Smile FM transmitter tips

Shini,

Sorry to hear about your problems with powering your FM transmitter with your lighter outlet, and that you're getting static when you power it from batteries.

I'll offer the following tips that may help.

First, the FM transmitter that I have, a Belkin Tunecast 2, does not turn on until it has both: 1) Power, and 2) input signal, e.g. from your iPod. Part 2 has stumped me several times. I always expect the thing to turn on when I plug it into power, but then I remember that it needs an audio signal also before it will turn on.

Regarding the static problem- you'll have the most success with FM transmitters by finding a station that ideally has no local broadcasts. That way, your FM transmitter isn't fighting against a strong transmitted signal from the radio station. Some FM transmitters will work better at a low frequency, while others seem to perform better at high frequencies. YMMV.

I use the 2nd DC outlet in my 2004 RX-8 to power my cell phone charger. It's in the console between the two front seats. You have to slide the armrest section back, then grab it and raise it up. It's hinged along the passenger seat. A pretty slick design, IMHO.

Good luck.

Im not here to argue old man, i just find it to be stupid that a person doesn't inspect a car before putting down 20k+ to buy it...hey im not advising you on how to spend your money, but thats just stupid. I would feel embarrassed to say "oh, you mean there is an outlet in this compartment right under my right arm?!?!?" Especially after owning the car for over ...lets say... 2 months.(ur a 2k6'er so im assuming you've owned it for over 2 months)

And yes, you got me on the oil part. what i meant to say was check/add instead of change. I dont care to edit my posts because i have no need to feel stupid in front of any of these members. The odds of one of us ever meeting in person are slim, so why should i care if have a typo? Nor do i care if im "just another name you'll scroll by".

you called me a jerk! I think ill go cut myself and cry in a corner.

im done arguing, pce ghost rider.

Meh, thanks for not being a total jerk in this post =)

And to just reply I'm not old at all I'm 21, and I understand what you mean, but if you want to make fun of me atleast post something pertaining to my problem and THEN bash me, please? I didn't pay for the car, my parents did when I was 20 a year ago. So uhhh yeah. I trest drove it, liked it, got it home, gave it a quick look over, but the AC adapat is in the very back of the compartment, unless you're turning yourself towards the back of the car you're not going to notice it while driving and you feel that the the armrest after sliding it back can also move up aswell for a compartment. I just noticed it while driving and since I have no real sue for it I never bothered to look inside.

Oil part is fine, dealership told me when to change the oil and to make sure I keep track of it, and I do. Just because I didn't know there was an adapater outlet in backside of the compartment doesn't mean I don't know how to take car of my car as far as maintence goes. It just means I like driving it, noticed it was there a few days after having it while driving and never bothered to think about it again since I have nothing to put in it. If it's any consolation I'm only 5'8-ish so my seat is pretty far forward. I have to literally move my body to face the passenger seat to be able to see it. I can't just open the compartment and voila it's there in eye sight =/

So blame it on me being fairly short, or blame it on me not having anything to put inside the compartment, or both!

All that matters now is that I know it's there.

FYI I just solved the whole iPod thing by going to Best Buy and getting an iTrip.

the one in the compartment was too small for the big bulky plug-ins to fit in all the way as a previous poster suggested.

There's still a little static but like WireBoy said I can just keep trying different frequencies. =)

I have had no problem using either receptacle, but the one in the center console is shaped a bit differently than the one in the ash tray. It is designed for power adapters and not for a lighter. Some adapters may only work in that one.

They're just too big. whenever my roomate gets back from vacation I'm going to try his out. He has an FM Tuner as well (It's what prompted me to get one). I was going to try to get his after all the crap I got with the first 3 I got.

He has a mazda too, no an 8 though, but I imagine they'd have the same size adapaters in them?

So I'm just gonna try his whe he gets home and see if it works. If it does I'll find out where he got his. Have 30 days to return the iTrip.

Honestly Dshiznit1489, you are the last person that should be talking about researching a car. You bought an AT 8 and are talking about "pwning ricers". GFL with that. Why don't you get out from behind the computer screen and actually go drive your car? Just make sure you get home before curfew.

For my Sirius radio, I put it in the rear seat compartment, directly below the rear window. No static, but hard to change channels.

you sound like a complete moron, 1 of the greatest things about owning the 8 is the people you meet especially from the boards. every 2 weeks i drive 70+ miles up to raleigh just to hang out with them why? because we have common interests and alot to talk about and who doesnt like to bullshit with other people? and it isnt just the 8 we have many 7 owners also. it seems you just joined the boards so you can flame everyone who doesnt know as much as you think you do im sure theres many on here that know/have done much more than you could ever think of so before you EVER ask a question on here you better be ready to get flamed by those of us who actually know what the **** we are talking about or change your attitude towards others.

edit: go find some ricer boards and join them they seem to suit you better

When you buy a car I don't think you go and count how many outlets it has or how many cup holders and where they're located. I think you inspect things that actually make the car run. If he said "oh ****, I'm missing an exhaust" after all this time then yea I'll join the flaming...but power outlets..really?!? Heck, I didn't know about the handle inside the trunk you use to close it...does that mean I didn't research the car?!?! No because when you research, you research the big things and not the little things like power outlets.

so basically u are saying your dad is too lazy to learn to drive stick? i mean common i taught a 13 year old how to drive stick and i have a feeling its your parents car and you are just claiming it as yours if he feels the need to drive that much to where he cant get the MT for you and drive his own car

No i am NOT saying my dad is lazy, my dad works 80 hours a week(owns his own business) and does not have time to learn. It is my car, being its under my name/insurance. He has 3 of his own cars, only drives mine once every 2 weeks..if that. Since he was buying the car he said i cant get stick because he cant drive stick and he would like to drive my car. Like i said before, MT or AT i still love this car.

This is major thread hijacking lol.

ok so if its under your name and insurance then you would have been the 1 there to sign all the paperwork and you could have said no to an AT but then again u probably knew absolutely nothing about the car when your dad bought it

What is worse, that people keep posting this crap or that I keep coming back to read it? I guess I am not nearly as refined as I thought I was.

To the OP, I have an FM iPod thing in my Frontier and then got the Mazda hardwired one for my RX8, the Mazda one is a PITA to use, but it sounds way better!!! My .02 cents in case you care.

That thing to the left of the dash is the "airbag off" warning light. On older models in the US it's a blank. Definitely a mystical item if it's not functional on your car.

Didn't see if anyone told you where the second outlet is. I got as far as the argument about oil. (Wonder if we can turn an oil thread into an argument about outlets? ) It's in the back of the rear console compartment. They even have a little notch so a cord plugged into that can come into the front compartment and the lid will still close.

And I find the outlets to be tight - not every accessory olug will fit and make proper contact.

im not gonna go through all your former posts to bring up some of the ricer stuff and also the way you flame everyone and anyone. go take a look at the honda boards its kids with an attitude like yours if you havent noticed most people on here are mature and intelligent you seem to be the opposite. you need to have your dad buy you some brains maybe he can get those put in your name and do something to your car for the love of god especially if you "own 2 gas stations" LOL

lolz. I bet my dad could beat up your dad

Why would you even bother adding that in? Do you REALLY think someone was going to try to give you crap about that? No one cares.

By the way, do you need any ice for all these burns?!

I'm joking. It's cool. Your dad likes to give you nice things like mine does =)

I doubt your dad works 80 hours a week though! That'd be ridiculous.

As long as you like the car that's what is the important thing. I was in the same boat, my dad pushed me to get an AT too. I'm regretting it a little bit now though. I still love the car either way.

Just be a little bit more helpful around the forums man, there's no reason to go off on people over such minor things as someone not knowing there's a 2nd adapater in the car
