Shock Sensor ?!?!?

Shock Sensor ?!?!?
I've purchased the "Shock Sensor" upgrade...
It works great but there is something wierd about it :
It is activated as soon as the ignition is not in the "ON" position.
What I mean by activated is that if there is some sort of movement,
interior dome lights will blink, but the alarm system (with the horn and
everything) will go off until I lock the car....... i think
HOWEVER, it gets pretty annoying when I want to stay in my car and, for
example, listen to radio... the lights keep blinking except when in the
"ON" position...
But last week I tried to go to the "drive-in" movie... now it made
things impossible ! Normally you would let the ignition on the "ACC"
position but if I did that the interior lights were blinking during all
the movie... except if I set the sound to a barely audible level... so I
had to keep the ignition in the "ON" position and have the really flashy
WHITE GAUGES in my face during all the movie...
Is it installed correctly and is there a solution??
And by the way, IS IT NORMAL that the dome lights flash when there is a movement... like when I get in my car and close the door, those lights flash... (except the key is in the ignition and on the "on" position)
Thanx

UgE, I have the shock sensor upgrade too, but I have never noticed the dome light to flash. I'll experiment with mine tonight and report back.

I tried it last night. I found exactly what you described. In the ACC with the radio on I see the alarm icon blink to indicate an active alarm system. Also, when I turn up the stereo, every significant beat of the music causes the dome light (and door side-lights) to flicker *and* there is an audible click from the glove-box where one of the components in the shock sensor systems is installed (check the DIY pages - there are some pictures of the unit and how to adjust sensitivity).
I tried the same work-around you tried - switching to 'ON'. That turned on my bright, white gauges and rolling the dimmer switch down did make them dimmer, but never red. In my 2004 I can make the dimmer switch click at the maximum brightness for always-on-white, but it will not click at the minimum brightness for always-red.
The dash did go red as soon as I turned on my parking lights, but that would thoroughly **** off *someone* at the drive-in. (Never-fails - I was at a drive-in in Portland, OR on a chilly, 40F night so I started the engine to run the heater for a bit for the wife and I in the middle of the movie. Right away some dip who had been sitting on their hood behind us comes up and says, 'Hey, can you shut off your rig? We're gagging on your exhaust back there.' It was a 1-year-old `95 Pontiac Sunfire, not a diesel or V8 Buick. Sheesh).
So, I'd suggest either
1) get familiar with your shock sensor and mark the sensitivity **** for two positions: minimum for the drive-in and normal for regular protection, or
2) bring a blanket to throw over your legs and the dash to block out the instruments.

there's something not right ... I have had the shock sensor in my car since i bought it. It only activates when I enable the car alarm. And the car alarm doesn't enable when the key is in.

damn i knew this sounded familiar- you guys have the OLD shock sensor system which had an issue with this. It was actually taken off market and a NEW version brought out. There is an update kit to fix it by putting in a diode. Here is the TSB

It's an extra option for around $60 (can't remember exactly, my order receipt is not in front of me). I ordered it for mine and think it's a good idea. My luck, though, one of the random cats around here will probably manage to set the alarm off in the middle of the night and **** off all the neighbors!!!! That would be a real pain, too, since my car will be parking at my neighbors house.

This was an option I thought would be great.. I had to have my original changed to the "updated" version...It still stinks.. Unless you turn the sensitivity down, you will get the clicking and dome light effect.. I was forced to turn it down or be driven nuts w/ the noise. This is one case where Japanese engineering did not work out.
