But to each his own. If you want to advertise you personal information on the internet, that's your prerogative.

Sorry, everyone—I knew Social Security numbers are something to guard, but VINs!?! And license plate numbers!?! I respect the fact that some people go to great lengths to protect themselves and their property—but sorry, I just don't see how posting publically displayed information like VINs and license plate numbers poses any significant threat. I sense the general idea here is to give out as little information as possible. Which reminds me! Your cellphone calls are not secure and can be listened into without your knowledge. Before guarding your VINs and license plate numbers so carefully, you might consider limiting yourself to your traditional landline phone from now on. Much safer.

Yes, but why hand it to them on a platter? People can break into your car too, even though it's locked and has an alarm system, but does that mean you leave it wide open for them since they can get in anyway?
I'm guessing you've never been been bitten on the *** by the internet. I've had freaks from here that I've banned send me threatening emails about how they "know where I live" because they used random information that I posted on here about where I work, what I do, and where I live (in different places, no less) to try and track me down. So I rarely post anything that could be remotely identifying anymore. It's just common sense. You can sit here and tell everyone all day that they're paranoid idiots, but that still doesn't mean posting your personal information all over publically read forums is a good idea.
