Unhappy She's gone......bwaaaahhhhhhh....

They had to pry the keys from my hands...................

Well I finally settled on the replacement form my beloved 8 which I noted in a previous thread was wreaking havoc with my lifelong back and hip problems. Most of it was due to the tight fit of the seats and small amount of padding in the lower part of the seat. I was able to twist around in other seats on long trips in order to take pressure off the pinched nerve in my lower back. Not so with these seats.

It's a 2005 Ford Escape XLT Sport AWD. Equipped with leather, moonroof, class II trailer towing pkg, side curtain airbags, 6-disc in dash CD player. Its got a 201 hp DOHC, 24V, V6 and a 4-speed automatic.

As for my back all I have to do is set my cheek on the seat and sliiide over! And my carpal tunnel syndrome in my hands for some reason is no longer a problem driving anymore. It must be due to wheel angle. My hands would start to go numb after 10-15 minutes and this has not happened in this vehicle yet.

Yes I will miss that car and may look at possibly getting a used one later as a second car. One that will not be a long distance tourer but something I want to drive for fun. It was what I always wanted but did not know how it was going to affect my body the way it did.

For those interested. I was given $22,500.00 when I traded it in. Not bad for 9363 miles and 10 months old. It was not too bad considering I only had the car a short time. All the incentives and rebates were eaten up by what little negitive equity tere was and my payments stayed about the same BUT my insurance dropped $40 a month!

My wife has the 05 tribby. It will guzzler gas until it is broken in. It has 1700 miles and is giving 15mpg mostly city. The Heated seats are far better then on the 8. Also look into getting a MAC Intake. It will improve gas mileage.

Checkout: http://www.escape-central.com

They have lots of info

Please dont forget to drop by every once and again

I'm sorry to hear that news. Hopefully your back gets better, at least it doesn't hurt as often now. There will always be time for a second car and when that time comes the new RX? will be out!

Glad to hear you're feeling better but remember to bring some tissues with you in the Escape for when you see your car at the dealer or pull up next to her on the road

I can certainly understand how back comfort has to be a primary concern. I have a ruptured disc bigger than the Rock of Gibraltar myself, but fortunately the seat in the 8 feels fine so far. Good luck.

I got an Escape as a rental earlier this year. Good little car. We liked it. Good luck with this vehicle, and hope your back's doing better!

Yup!

I had them on the 8 but of course they don't fit the Escape since the lack of a Renesis engine. They just transfered over the plates. When I can come up with a witty plate for the ford then I will change them over.

Oh man, going from a sports car to an SUV, bummer. If it were me, I would have looked into aftermarket seats. Maybe RECARO has some kind of orthopedic seat that would have been ok for your back and hip.

Anyway, enjoy your new ride!

BTW, you live in Newport News right? My girlfriend's half-sister, and her sister live there. She also used to live in Yorktown (my girlfriend).

How could you? Be honest...did YOU really want to give up the 8?

I had a not so similar issue with my 8 not being suitable for work...so instead of getting rid of it, I bought another car!! Now the 8 lives in the garage and somes out clean on meet days and when I want to go for a joyride. Do you think you will own one again?

P/S/ I dig the Escape!! Looks like silver is you thang???

My wife has an early 2002 silver Escape and she loves it. No major problems to date. Her prior ride was a civic. She drives about 56 miles each weekday roundtrip for work.

Good luck and enjoy it.

Sorry to hear you giving up the 8, as I feel your pain. I just bought a new car today myself, as my back L5, S1 and S2 as well as sciatica in my left (clutch) leg just couldn't take it anymore. My back became more irritated from the movement of working the clutch. I hope your new truck gives you relief and comfort, as your health is more important. Good luck. The 8 was the best car I ever owned. The quality, looks, attention to detail, handling, ride, smooth 6 speed, and fun factor just to name a few. The only drawback was MPG and lack of low end power, but it still is a great car and I will recommend it to anyone looking for a fun, semi-practical 4 door sport car. I will also enjoy other peoples excitement and experiences with the RX8, as well as this excellent forum and it's many members.

Ah ha you could tell that I purposely left my new car out of the picture, didn't you! After having the RX8 it's embarrassing. But it's it's, gosh this is tough. A Galant GTS. It was one of the very few cars I could afford after taking a loss on the RX8, but I think it's a great car for the money. It is also very comfortable and actually has a very good ride, handling and power for as big as it is. The 10 yr. warranty and free 3 yr. 40,000 mile scheduled maintenance was assuring considering the long term financing I had to use. I liked the Mazda 6, and Altima but couldn't quite afford those with the same features as the GTS, but I'm happy.

That's a pretty slick-looking new ride, Rotary Nut. I hope it improves your back problem. I have a feeling even the swivel and stand suggested above wouldn't have helped much. The 8 is pretty low, after all.

Anyway, your risk of speeding tickets is much reduced now! I hope you stick around to give us more of your insights. I always enjoy your posts.

Wondered where you went? Sorry to hear about your back! I lived in NN off Oyster Point a number of years ago.
I hope you will continue to share your insights with us.
