I'd guess that your 8 has an automatic transmission. The 04's w/ automatic transmissions have a little different engine in them(4 intake ports vs 6), and don't make as much power.

from wikipedia...
"4-speed automatic tuned to 141 kW (192 PS; 189 hp) in some markets, while the U.S. automatic is stated to deliver 158 kW (215 PS; 212 hp)."

It has nothing to do with power. It has everything to do with gear ratios.

The MT has higher ratios than the AT and should top out at lower speeds.

well, unless someone before you put in a setup with a different final drive ratio(I have never heard of a lower ratio though...), then clearly you have non oem tires with a larger diameter than stock. Stock diameter tires give 40 mph at 9000 in first and about 66 mph at 9000 in second, and about 90 mph at 9000 in third.

Now I know I have an auto, but I could have sworn the MT 3rd gear topped out at 100+?

Dude! You got one the special edition 2004 RX-8's with the 11,000 RPM redline Renesis! They only made 5 and all of them were Velocity Red. The other 4 are in Japan and are locked away in the garages of rich Japanese millionaires.

So lucky.

Haha dude you need to learn to think a little bit...

stock tires are 225/45, so going to 245/45 will OBVIOUSLY mean a larger diameter....

wow

and larger diameter means you will be going faster ....................
BUT your speedo does not know you have bigger tyres on and only reads wheel speed . Which for a given engine rpm will remain the same .
So - the max speed in each gear as read by the speedo stays the same no matter what tyre size you have on ..................................

You're asking him to think a little?

The difference between going from a 225/45-18 and a 245/45-18 results in ONLY a2.7% difference in rolling circumference, NOWHERE NEAR the error he says he's seeing...

It also means that by going to a LARGER tire, the speedometer will actually read 2.7% SLOWER. When the speedometer reads 60mph, you're actually going 61.6mph.

Why don't YOU think before calling somebody else stupid?

I do realize he came back and said the tires were the stock size.

Brettus, it absolutely does make a difference what size tires you have.

Here's a handy calculator for it

Woah I was told I was the only US one!!!! ugh

dam

But to answer the whole semi confused

MT for me redlining/fuel cut off for first is about 39mph ive seen 42 once.
Second Gear, the few times I've redlined first to redline second I got like 69? I believe it was.

But if you have an AT you may see high 40's to redline though I can not speak for sure

Also make sure the youtube videos are in mph not KPH

Unless you changed the gearing, there's no ******* way you're hitting 77 mph in 2nd gear, so either your speedometer is waaaaaaay off or you're pretty much on crack.

Oh, and welcome to forum!

65mph = 105kph

Good thought, but he would be telling us he's shifting out of 2nd at 105

Everybody look at the R&T data panel under "Drivetrain"! Learn a little about your car!
