Sell my rx8 for 350z or 2006+ civic si?

Alright guys I really need advice on this one. I started out with a 1993 240sx that was all souped up and painted a very beautiful daytona blue. I now have an 05 VR RX8 6 speed with 56k miles. I reallyyyy wanted a blue car but my dad surprised me with this a year ago. I definitely am not liking the gas mileage and so I'm looking into a couple cars to have instead. Either a 2003+ 350z or 2006+ civic si. Both cars I would want in blue. I kelley blue booked my car and trade in is terrible. around 9 thousand I think it said. I could also just paint my rx8 a blue that I wanted, but why ruin a perfectly fine paint job? I'm sure the proud VR owners are going to hate on me for this. But red is really not my style. So what should I do guys? Sell my car? Trade it to a dealer? I would even consider trading my VR for a blue rx8 as well. Just fyi, my mods are a catback exhaust and midpipe. Everything else stock

cheapest course of action is to trade with a blue.

a full paint will cost you a bit of money, money you wont get back, ever.

but then you dont like the gas situation. do what you want.

a Z will be no better, but if youre going for a Z get at least a 370z, si are overrated and well everyone and their mom has one of those

How dare your dad not get you the blue one!

Going from the 240, to the RX8, to a Civic. You would not be happy. Save the civic for when you are old and boring. For now keep it fun. Either get a blue Rx8 or the Z

The only reason I say civic is because I know I'd be guaranteed good gas mileage. Having a midpipe and exhaust definitely doesn't help because I'm always wanting to step on it. You guys are right though. I'd definitely be happier with a blue z or rx8 but if I see a Fiji blue civic si that is really clean, I might jump on it. Also looking at s2000's.

I was thinking of getting a 350Z at first, but my wife told me that we have 2 kids and we need a back seat...so, I was searching for a 2 door sports car, and I found the rx8, so I decided to get it because of the back seat. Anyway, if the 350Z has a back seat, then that is my choice.

OP,

If you want to keep the 8, trade it for a blue one. Perhaps checking here first to see if anyone with a blue one wants a VR? If you don't like the gas mileage though, you won't get any happier with a 350z. Check the Top Gear comparisons between the RX-8 and the 350z and think about if the changes are acceptable to you.

And "blue" is subjective, since there is Phantom Blue, Winning Blue, Stormy Blue, and Aurora Blue across the 8s.

Monchie, that post isn't really on topic. Anyway, maybe you could actually post something relevant to the OP next time.

I'm really wanting a dark blue that shines like no other. I think the Aurora blue is just that. But I would not want to paint it actually.. I thought about it and I would rather just trade for a blue 8. I think my only option would be the winning blue because my options would be 2005-07

Winning Blue was only in 2004 and is a lighter brighter blue, though deeper than baby blue

Stormy Blue was in 2006 and 2007 (and 2008?), and is a dark blue with lots of depth to it

Phantom Blue was in 2006 and 2007 is called 'green' by many, and is more of a seagreen/seablue, and can easily swing between green or blue depending on what it's reflecting (though it isn't a true color shift)

Aurora Blue is darker than Winning Blue, more of a sapphire blue. And was only on 2009+ R3s.

So if 2005-2007 is your range, then Stormy Blue might be what you are looking for.

Man those are sexy. Thanks alot for those posts. Wasn't aware that winning blue was only for the 04's. I heard you should stay away from the 04's but maybe it is only the automatics. I really wish I could have aurora blue. One of my favorites. It is really similar to the Daytona Blue that was on my 240sx. I'll have to look into stormy blue though, not sure if I like it. Almost too dark without the royal blue shine I want.

That winning blue is sexy though too. I could throw on some white rims on that ish. Hmm. not sure if I want another 8! I just watch the gas needle as it goes down haha. I know the civic SI is a downgrade but I'd love the MPG. The z would be more powerful because my friends automatic 350z beat me badly.

Sounds like an 8 just isn't the car for you to be honest.

Before you decide on a Civic Si test drive a Mini Cooper S. 25+ MPG and the chassis is so right you forget it is wrong wheel drive.

I used to own a John Cooper Works Mini Cooper s (205 HP model) and I did not drive very nice, always got 25 MPG, if I behaved, I would get closer to 30.

This is not the color you are looking for.... :D

That could be. Or maybe just a red car isn't for me. I seriously can't even explain how much I want a blue car again. If my 8 was blue I'm sure I'd be way more in love

I'd consider a Mini if it wasn't for that stupid overgrown pointlessly enlarged speedometer. I can't even glance in a Mini without throwing up a bit. Actually having to look over at it to see my speed regularly? Forget it. I don't care how good the rest of the car is. I'd take a hammer to the dash inside of a week.

But yeah, performance wise, it's pretty good for a FWD.

How about going back to another? For rx8 and 350z money, you could get a nice S14

Scratching my head thinking the same thing.

The center dash speedo is homage to the OG mini. They had them there as well.

I hated it too because it let everyone in the car know how bad I was speeding.

Isn't the center speedo in a mini optional and a clock is another option? The do come in a pretty sweet blue as well. I vote cooper s over si.

The civic Si isn't really a chick magnet but the girl that is about to be my new girl thinks they're sexy. You can make them look pretty dope. I really want to get back into upgrading my cars but I want a blue car first so I know I will keep it. I've seen a lot of vids of the Si beating the rx8 in drags and street racing but hands down I know the rx8 would **** all over it in autoX but I don't autoX

A stock Civic Si is no faster than an RX-8 in the quarter mile (or 0-60). However, if you want a car that gets more than 20 mpg, and does well drag racing, then loki is right... The RX-8 is definitely not the car for you.

If you don't appreciate what the RX-8 does, then make the change. Personally, I would cry myself to sleep every night if there were a Civic in my garage where my RX-8 is supposed to be.

Heh... If you need any particular car (let alone a CIVIC) to get a girl, then you're really doing it wrong.

Winning blue went into 2006. It was really rare for 06, but 05 is fairly common. That's what mine is. It's an amazing color.
