Self Leveling Xenon Lights.

Hello everyone... I just got my brand new RX-8 Sport. Im also new to this forum.

Question: Can I replace my head lights with the self leveling xenon lights system since this is not available in the sport trim. I really wanted them but could live without the other costly ammenities. If this is possible how much does it cost? ( Parts & Labor) I would like original part. There might be a thread on this already but I was not able to find it...

I would appreciate any help.

I always thought the RX-8's headlights level themselves on inclines?

*shrug*

As other posters have mention, the HID (Xenon) lights are part of a package for the sport model. If you didn't get that package and just have the standard Halogens then to upgrade to Xenon properly can be costly. Most kits provide just the balasts and the bulbs themselves but to do it *right* then you basically need to replace then entire headlamp assembly. (take a loot at http://www.danielsternlighting.com/t...nversions.html)

If you really don't care about headlamp performance then just google "RX-8 HID Xenon kits" and you should find conversion kits galore.

I do have a little experience in this since I tried to do the same thing with a car I used to own. I found out the hard way that it wasn't a simple or cheap solution to do it correctly.

Anyhow, my .02

Why would you want that? If you're driving up an 8% mountain incline, why would you want your headlights pointing 20 feet in front of you? Or if you're going down a 2% decline, do you really want to be blinding the oncoming drivers? Maybe I'm just misunderstanding how the "self-leveling" headlights work.

Self-leveling headlight has nothing to do road incline. It measures the difference in ride height between the front and rear axle and compensate for it. ie. If you put 200 lb of concrete in your trunk, the nose of your car will be pointing upward. That's when self-leveling kicks in to re-aim the lights lower.

First.. The reason why i mentioned the 'self leveling' xenon system is because thats whats available with the Touring and the Grand Touring models, and I want this same exact system. I didnt want to add aftermarket parts. I was wondering if this was even possible.

Second..To answer your question Endor I live in Miami Florida and we have no mountains so that isnt why I mentioned Self leveling.

Mr. Cairo thanx for your advise.. Ill look into your suggestions..

you all have been alot of help. If anybody has done this replacement and knows price I would appreciate the help..

You could always find some housings on ebay in good shape for a good price and just purchase a Xenon kit. Still have the Xenons, but no self leveling.

You may be able to do it but i think it will cost you a pretty penny if you want to go OEM. I have no idea what other parts you may need besides the headlights. You could call your local Mazda dealer and ask them what you will need and get them to throw a quote out there for you although it will be sky high. When you do find out, check local junkyards.
