Seat bolster splitting!!
Hey all,
Anybody else having issues with the drivers seat bolster splitting? I'm not talking about the seat seat itself, I'm talking about the plastic frame. If you look at the top of it, you will see the seam where the plastic meets. Maybe a warranty issue!!

yeah, this is extremely warranty, and not technical in the slightest.
you can post just general RX-8 stuff in the general section, it'll get more hits that way too.

I noticed my driver seat's door front side plastic cover on the "rail" is flopping around. Is that the part you are referring to? If so, that is a definite yes. Coming up on 10,000 miles soon and will probably call a week ahead to let them know about all the things needing fixed so they can line up all the parts ahead of time to keep from having to take it back multiple times. My dealership (crooks) do not give a loaner out unless it is going to be over night, even though I understand it is not Mazda's policy on our cars. So, when I have to have service, I get the shuttle (mini van with an old guy who talks way too much) ride full of other people and get to ride all over town dropping everyone off.

LOL, same here. Did that once, now I get a loaner if I ask.

No pic needed, just sit in the drivers seat and reach down left to the plastic rail cover. AKA the bolster. At the apex push and see if it seperates, mine does. Just another draw back to buying a new model. Did I say I really really love my 8? I do, these minor annoyances are to be expected, as long as they cover it.

Mine does the same thing if I'm not careful getting out of my seat. If I sit on the edge of the seat, the plastic bolster will separate. It happened to me about a month after I got my 8. Damn thing shot my power seat buttons across the parking lot. Luckily I found both of them. The two halves go back together pretty easily and the buttons pop right back on. Just make sure you secure the front clip or the seat will pop apart each time.
I haven't said anything to the dealership. I'm not real sure what they could do. I could glue it with Gorilla Glue or something, but I think it's supposed to come apart for a reason. For now I just try to be more careful getting out of my car.

I went to the dealer this weekend cause I read this thread a couple weeks ago when I was lurking. I played with the seat bolsters on the driver's side and with a little pull I heard a couple pops like thread coming apart and you could see the threads that connected the seat and the bolster. Maybe I tugged too hard? I figured after some spirited driving that this could possibly be an issue. Anyway, I would definitely like to see pics as well.
