Excuse the french but mustangs are crap. Ford continues to build the american car the way it has been built for the last 25 years substandard and lacking any forward thinking design . I know many former mustang owners who pissed away time and money keeping them on the road. I owned american made cars for about 10 years until I tired of the bs repairs and and the low resale value. Good luck in your search but from this burned american car consumer you might want to consider building or buying a house next to a ford dealer that way you have easy access for all the visits you will be making.
There are plenty of Mustang enthusiasts who would disagree emphatically with you on this point... of course don't expect to find them on this RX-8 forum. It's true, the quality and reliability of domestic cars was awful in the 80's and eary 90's. It's not fair to claim that "Ford continues to build the american car the way it has been built for the last 25 years". Sorry, but that's BS. You think Ford doesn't realize that it has been surpassed by the Japanese in quality? Great strides have been made by all the domestic automakers in recent years--and you will see that the gap between the quality of vehicles from all manufacturers has really narrowed, and will continue to narrow.

I've never owned a Mustang and don't plan on owning one anytime soon, but the 2005 Mustang will be a great car. One of the only things that would stop me from considering it is that everybody and his brother will have one within a couple of years. I like the uniqueness of the RX-8.

American cars have the worst resale value of all manufactured cars. I wonder why? Demand.

Wow the domestic automakers sure move fast. So many wonderful products over the last 25 years. I wonder what the Japanese have been doing while the domestic automakers are closing the gap. Maybe they are sitting back and waiting for the domestic automakers to "catch up".....Not. Or maybe better yet ford can copy the japanese with a few "new" cars 5-10 years down the road that resemble Japanese builds we are seeing today.

Actually it's all of the incentives that are driving down the resale value of American cars. In many ways, the American manufacturers are at a disadvantage because they've been around for so long and are so large. Their overhead costs are so enormous that they need to push out vehicles with incentives just to meet these costs. In contrast, Japanese manufacturers have much more flexibility when it comes to manufacturing. They can build what sells, and don't need to offer incentives to push out less popular models.

You seem to be very shortsighted in your view of the industry. It wasn't that long ago that Japanese cars were considered absolute crap. They improved their designs and manufacturing processes, and now they've overtaken the American carmakers. You don't think the American companies are capable of doing the same thing? I'm not claiming that American cars will be better than Japanese cars anytime soon, but I certainly think that they'll achieve similar quality and reliability. The automakers know that they need to do this to survive.

Yeah I said that, right now I have to wait until Aug anyway to buy a car. Thats when my family will all be home from our busy summer so they can all go with me when I buy it.When my daugher bought her M3 we all were there, and celebrated it together then went out to eat, and thatswhat were going to do when I buy my car. I dont know about you guys, but I have never bought a 30k vehicle, its got to be a moment I savor. So If I'm going to wait till aug I will try real hard to wait one more month till Sept, and drive the Musatng. Right now I know the moment of decision will be the test drive of the Mustang.I love the looks but Ill have to love the ride as much or more than the 8 otherwise its Velocity Red MT6 here I come.

I understand how you feel about domestic cars my famiily all feel the same.I have one lone son-in-law rooting for the Mustang, BUY AMERICAN he says. My wife recently saw the 8 and said how sexy it looked, like womans figure. My son wants me to get the 8 , He says everyone has a Mustang, get the 8. In all fairness though, the trash American mrket is pretty much cornered at General Motors. Im talking Camero, Cavilier, and so on. I dont know if you have ever looked closely at either of those two cars but if you have, you know why they had to drop the Camero , the Amercian public had dropped it many years ago. Ford realy is fairly high up the scale in American qulity, and not as far from the Japanese as others. You cant argue with the F-150 or Musatng, highest sales in thier market. Obviously the american cars also apeal to a dif person, not you or me. You like the high tech ,quality of the Japanesse as I do too. THe american cars apeal to certain americans thats are loyal or familiiar with them.

The Musatng on the other hand has enjoyed such popularity as to continue on . not just because it gives you the most HP,bang for the buck, but becasue it is also has the best quality in its market. It's not quite japanese quality, but its the best in its class. It has a hugh following of kids racing, and a hugh tuner market for those that like that sort of thing.

You hiy on an imprtant fact , the Japanese can design and build new so fast, thats one of their keys to success which the Amraican Builders are trying to catch up at. Ford is getting much better at thats also but you got to give credit to Dodge also. They show off a proto type, like the Prowler or PT Cruiser, and then build them very close to the prototype and most crucialy AFORDABELY!! Although I dont think much of Dodge quality I got to apreciiate what they'er doing, it does keep the others, Japanes included, busy coming out with new cars to compete.

Whats its realy all about is choice, YEAh for America's freedom of choice. High tech japanese or American iginuity, we all have achoice.
