Sat Nav: Dealer installed option or not?
Im confused about this. Is Sat Nav a dealer installed option? On the Mazda website it says it is.
So does that mean any Mazda dealer can put in Sat Nav in any 05 RX-8?
SO I can potentially search for an 8 without Sat Nav. Find my one and then ask the dealer to put the OEM Sat Nav in it?
Does it still cost $2000 or is it more?
Lemme know guys. I've seen many posts and replies from dealer and dont know aht to make of this.
I def. need OEM Sat Nav.
Thanks!

I don't feel like searching for it, but another member on this forum installed the factory SatSav and it was a ridiculously complicated job. The dealer won't do it, so your best bet is to get an aftermarket SatNav system (and from what I hear, the aftermarkets are typically better than the factory one anyway)

Once you get Sat Nav you cant go back to paper maps.
I did a search and found the user's post who installed his own OEM Sat Nav. Im not willing to go through similar pain.
Aftermarket Sat Nav's while being better and cheaper look a lot more ghetto as they arent integrated with the car. I like the way the OEM Sat Nav pop's up
1 dealer told me in the 05's the Sat Nav is a dealer installed option, but I havent found anything like that on ppl's posts here. Thats why I asked

But then doesnt it end up being more expensive? You need to get the pop up tray and a Sat Nav and pay the guys to do the install which would still not integrate properly with the car im thinking console/arm rest Sat Nav buttons)
If it ends up being double the price, then whats the point, and havent you voided your warranty by opening up the dash and in the first place?

It's probably not going to cost you more, coming from an independent shop, especially if they use Mazda's set up and and gear (since it's already laid out for them in terms of where everything should go). The wiring and whatnot are already in place, so it's a matter of them installing it seamlessly.
However, the warranty concerns are valid. And, as you've seen, the warranty can be handy if the RX-8 gets finicky on you - not that it will, of course.
If Sat Nav is so important, just take a deep breath, and tick the options box that specifies it.
