Boy do I feel for you. Love my 8. Hope you were not hurt. How did the 8 hold up to the Escort? Did the air bags deploy? Side ones?

well the escort stuck his nose right into the drivers side door and jammed it closed, fender bent right over the wheel but it was hard to tell exactly wut else was damaged..... oh ya and the bastard messed up my strakes!!!!

but tthats something i was wondering... why the hell didnt the air bags deploy, like im okk other than a couple bumps n bruises... but my passenger hurt his neck and went to the hospital... has there been any problems with airbags?

Sorry to hear...

Sorry to hear about your accident...seriously hope everything goes well for you, your friend and your car.

There was a recall and TSB on the passenger-side airbags...check the Technical board for the TSB thread. My pick-up date was delayed by a day because my dealer had to do this recall as well as the Dynamic Dampener recall. From what I've gathered, most owners who have picked up their car since late Feb of this year have gotten these things taken care of before driving their cars home.

Like I said, hope things go well...good luck!

Arvin

Airbags are designed to deploy in a frontal collision - if he hit you in the side, then they shouldn't have deployed. The side curtain airbags will deploy in a rollover scenario, but I'm not sure how big of a side impact it takes to deploy the side curtain or seat side airbags.

Regards,
Gordon

Sorry to hear about your ride. I've had more near misses in the three weeks that I've had my 8 than I had in the previous five YEARS with my Passat. What the hell?

sympathies - mine was about 10 days old, and has been in the shop 7 1/2 WEEKS since my accident. Don't let them fool you - they said the same thing to me "it's so new we are going to use all genuine Mazda parts, yada yada." Well, newsflash - it's so new there AREN'T any aftermarket copies yet!
Mazda parts are slow to ocme by at times. This doesn't explain the whole reason mine has taken so long - but I hope your repair goes more quickly than mine has. (WTF, 7 weeks for a 15 mph hit to my side front panel??)
Gladyou're not hurt. Good luck!
(I think these cars are bad luck but I still love them anyway!)

Dude, G)(0 I am sooooooo sorry. I have a funny/sad story to share about my recent visit to the local Mazda dealer for my first oil change. I have a Velocity Red GT, Appearance, with Chaparel two tone leather. I was sitting in the waiting room with my back to the window and I see from the garage area where they took my RX about 30 minutes before, a Jardan tow truck carrying a totaled Red RX 8 GT + Appearance!. Front end accordian, shredded Potenza's, seeing this in the reflecting window I jump up with an OH S**T thought in my head. I look at the car which also has a temporary tag (OUCH), just like mine. Except this one has Red and black two tone leather interior. My heart settles back to about 100 beats per minute, but I have this sinking feeling for the poor person who had their new RX-8 totaled.
