im 18, i hate seeing all these rich high school kids, my car during high school was a 1982 volvo 760 turbo. that thing was the biggest pile o ****, if you are 16 and looking at getting an 8 or a s2k, dont, i know how bad you want it, and you always want it right now! but dont, work for it, save up some money, put a down payment on it and take out a loan yourself. First of all you will feel good spending your own money, and when you wait to get a car you want bad, it makes you appreciate it a WHOLE LOT MORE. I read all four pages of this thread, please take everything that people said meaningful to your heart and mind

dont take the insults we say personally, that is one thing you have to learn about this forum, but we are looking out for you, and also dont want to see another ruined 8. Not saying that you would crash it, but still. you need to start off small, save your money for mods or something later on, get the car for your 18th birthday. its only 2 years, but life is hard these days and you will learn a lot. just wait. time apart makes the heart grow fonder. that goes for cars and girls

I was just joking about the oldsmobile thing, I'm not gonna deny someone a nice first car, my dad was going to get me an old beater of a firebird and my step-mom stepped in and said "omgwtfbbq sauce no!" and I ended up getting a new camaro.

No one on this forum can justify wether another person "deserves" a car or not. So don't take anything personally.

All we're saying is, don't be another Nick Hogan on the roads and you'll be welcome here. But if you're a tool llike him, then God help you with the amount of flames you'll recieve...

yes, that is EXACTLY what we are saying, he is a ******* idiot, and look at him now, what does he do? sit at home doing nothing. just take care of the car, but mostly take care of yourself. A good thing to do is go to an autocross event, check it out a couple times, then enter. you do that once or twice a month, that will satisfy your little speed addiction, and will let you know the limits of the car while having fun.

I'd take the 8 over an S2k.

All new drivers should start out with a 90HP shitbox so they can learn how to drive without power before getting into the 230HP high performance monster.

2 cents.

like i posted before. I KNOW MY LIMITS and IF I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW THE CARS LIMITS, I WOULD TAKE IT TO AUTOX. i guess that the MSM miata didnt have enough room for the things that i needed.and im not one of those kids who goes to their friends showing off their ride. i learned from past experience. (KIDS at school doing burnouts and drifintg infront of school) i respect others around me and wouldnt want to put their lives in danger. sorry if i act like a dick sometimes, i know that you guys are just trying to watch out for me.

It's not about if you deserve it.

The question is can you handle it safely.

Nobody wants a dead person or a wrecked car.

for sure i can handle it because, my cousin had FM turbo kit in his MSM miata since his stock turbo blew. and i would rarely hit turbo on a daily basis. i barley go over 5 or 10 mph over speed limit.

if you for sure know your limits, dont get arrogant with this car, cause one of the only places you will win is on the autox track, unless your racing a civic, haha, but back on topic, if you pay for part of the car, that will also be alot better than just getting the car for a present or something. My mom is rich, but it feels so much better spending my own money. And MOST of all is that you know and do respect the other drivers on the road and people in this world. i recommend only one thing, get good insurance, cause 90% of the people on the road suck at driving. Take it slow the first couple weeks, the 8 is an amazing car. Get to know it fully inside and out, then go to a track and have a little bit of fun. Good luck, personally, i give you the go ahead to buy an 8. Welcome to the club.

and a tip for this forum, search before you ask, otherwise you WILL get flamed and you will get pissed at the people on here. Everyone on here is either really cool, is a plethora of info, or funny as hell. dont take most of what people say on here personally.

I wanted the RX8 for my first car in 2003 when I was still in highschool. I wanted it so bad I couldn't help but tell the world and it became part of my persona. For graduation I thought I was gonna get one handed to me but instead I got nothing and had to purchase a Chevy Blazer. So at the age of 20 I decided to sell the Blazer for $2000 and put a $7k down payment on a used 1 owner lease returned GT rx8 and couldn't be happier.

Made me want to cry the day I drove it off the lot.

The only problem is that Insurance is more expensive then my car payment! agghhh

i guess all i neeed to do is also learn more about the rotary engine and how many times i should change the oil and stuff. and if i should carry a quart in my car juss for safety. and could you explain PREMIX to me, i cant really find a answer to it.

the mods i was thinking are, Greddy sp2 catback exhaust, AEM CAI, RB Light weight pully, rims, coilovers, and swaybars/endlinks. what do you think?

Premix is mixing 2-cycle engine oil into your gasoline. If you drive as gingerly as you claim you're going to, you needn't worry about it.

I would not recommend an S2K for a young driver. From what I have seen at the track, they are less forgiving than most cars.

At the track I see a lot of people, including myself, get out of shape from time to time. (We are all probing the limits of our skills and our cars, after all.) The S2K's are very fast on course and lay down great times. But, for some reason, many S2k's that get out of shape don't get back without hitting cones or coming around. I'm sure that driver skill has a lot to do with it, but all cars at the track have drivers, from all over the skill spectrum, that manage to keep the back of their cars behind them better than the S2k's.

The RX-8 handles great and doesn't seem to have at-the-limit quirks like the S2K. Be careful though, no car can compensate for stupidity, no matter how well sorted the chassis.
