Question RxNoob to be? Need Some Convincing.

Hey yall.
I've been thinking bout an 8. And prob planning on getting a car round June.
The choices are down to
Impreza Wrx or a Rx8.
I wanna narrow it down though and i got some questions i hope ya'll can answer.

1) How much does gas cost per fill and how many "kilometers" (i'm from canaduh) does it get? How is the gas and mileage after greddy turbo?

2) Should i wait for 06 to come out? is there a difference? if so what is new about it? (i heard a rumor that the mazda plant in Jpn burnt down or something, will there be an 06 anytime soon?)

3) (most contraversial) What color is the best? :D

4) Would anyone reccommend Rex as better choice?

1) Gas prices obviously depend on where you are. Right now I fill up from empty to completely full on about $33 using 93 octane. I did a few tests. I get an average of 260 miles to the tank. a little bit more highway driving than city. Don't know about the Greddy. But be prepared to spend alot of cash to get it installed.

2) The plant fire only effected cars that were to be made in january and december I think. Doesn't have anything to do with the entire model year. Only thing it affected was that no RX8s were made during that time.. No differences I don't think.

3) best color is the TI

4) I'd take the 8 over just about any car. But thats just me.

1) A new one will probably drink like crazy, so be prepared to visit the station regularly until youve put some miles on it (unless things have changed since the release of the 04s). Im spending somewhere between $30 - $35 US to fill it up. I usually takes me somewhere between 13.5 and 14 gallons to get full when the light is on after going about 400 kilometers. As for greddy, snoop around in the major horsepower upgrades section. There is bound to be something of use there.

2)Noone really knows whats going to be on the 06 8. Some rumors but nothing concrete. Buy now, think later .

3)SUNLIGHT SILVER! (and dont let noone scare you with this curse of the SS crap! :D)

4) uhh.. ike bait...

1) As a fellow Canadian, I can tell you that I am averaging 320-340km all city driving on a tank (that is when the light comes on). I know I can squeeze an additional 60km before I go to complete empty. The winter was rough on the gas cuz of the warming up (richer fuel ratios) and the winterized gas. Ehhh .. I spend roughly $45Cdn (I have a gas discount through my company).

2) Like the other fellows said, there's nothing concrete and I don't think the fire in Hiroshima will affect the 06s that much. Some rumors I heard was a 5speed auto and Triptronic (??). Probably nothing crazy like lasers or missles.

3) Is this even a legit question??? No doubt you want to be on the WINNING BLUE team. The name says it all. WINNER!

4) I considered the WRX STI and G35 but found them to not suit me. STI is REALLY powerful but I wasn't crazy about it. G35 is classy but again didn't love it as much as the rx8. I'd maybe trade the 8 for an Aston Martin (maybe).

Talking

Thanks for the quick replys :D
$45ish Cdn per fill doesnt seem that bad.
Considering i used to drive a volvo 960. (gas guzzler) and per fill cost around $60 and i was filling up supreme and gas was cheaper then.

One more question.
I hate the spoiler type wing, any chance to mod it into something like audi or benz got? and if so, should i choose the moonroof for the heck of it so they can make the hole for me? or get it done completely seperate.

As for color, i am still confused bec everyone is bias :p
the only color i'm not getting is yellow and purple (no offense)

Mind you my $45Cdn is with a gas discount (for roughly 55L) --> ~$0.81/L

There are a couple of aftermarket spoilers that are low profile like:

the Racing Beat
http://www.racingbeat.com/resultset....rtnumber=67109

the R Magic (it's the lip spoiler on the black 8)
http://www.r-3.jp/special-pic/r-magic/r-magic.htm

the Euro lip spoiler
https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...light=euro+lip

Search for lip spoilers and I'm sure you'll get tons of hits

2.) No one really knows...

3.) White :D

4.) The WRX is a great car but no one can tell you which is best for you. If you're into modding the WRX is a great car for that and with the money you'd spend on a greedy kit for the RX-8 you could be looking at 300+ whp in a WRX. Also if you have nasty winters the AWD comes in rather handy and makes you look forward to those snowy days. You just need to drive them and weigh the pros and cons of each and see what suits you best.

Lastly, if I were in the market for a WRX right now I'd be taking a hard look at the Saabaru 92X Aero. In the US right now there are 7k in manufacturers rebates right now and you can get one nicely equiped for around 20k. In addition with the Saab you get two years free maintenance. Not sure if similar rebates are available in Canada.

it usually cost me about $25 to fill up from a quarter tank. ive also been averaging 19.1 to 21.2 mpg, which isnt too bad.

im partial to black, but titanium and white are awesome colors. getting a shinka will make you very unique. honestly, its an rx-8. does color really matter? :D

1. If you're **** about fuel, you're looking at the wrong car.
2. There's always something "better" coming 'round the bend.
3. It's a sports car. Therefore, Velocity Red, q.e.d.
4. Not me.

you're joking right?
that's pretty awesome MPG for an RX8

I get about 17-18 with significant city driving.... and oh yeah, Velocity Red of course. People ask me all the time if it's a custom paint job.

1) The cost changes with the price of gas, obviously. I get 15-16 in the city and over 20 on the highway, and I drive moderately fun. Its just not the most fuel efficient car out there.

2) I don't know anything about 06 that would be better.

3) I have sunlight silver and red/black leather. I really like it. Obviously its a personal thing. Black looks great also, but shows a lot more dirt.

4) The profile of the RX8 is really beautiful, classis sports car with some very 21st century detailing in the lights, etc., so the beauty of the thing to me is terrific. The WRX doesn't have the look. Although I understand that its a smokin' hot car to drive, it just doesn't turn me on to look at like the RX-8. But just like the color, that's a personal choice.

re: #2>

Mazda corporate told me no official info is being made available on the 06's yet. But, off-the-record, they said not to expect any major changes. At best, they may allow some new interior color combination choices.

I am concerned about this as well, because I'm expecting my 8 to arrive mid-June 05, which I had to special order because I wanted a nav system- which apparently is impossible to find for the color car i wanted. Go figure.

3 months has turned out to be a LOT longer wait than I expected...

Nope, I've been getting that from the getgo as well(and I've got the records to prove it ).

And no, Nordic Green is best. Understated and tasteful :D

For YOU, no I would not recommend an 8. This sounds like a trainwreck waiting to happen. From the questions you are asking and the fact that you are considering a WRX tells me you will not be happy with an 8. Go with the WRX.

Why are you even considering an 8?

Forget what everyone says, and do this:

1) Go drive and 8, then a WRX, and not just around the block. See if you can find demo vehicles w/a few miles (kilometers) on them. Try things.

2) Take a moment alone with each (quality time), just stare at them a while, try different angles, inside and out, but esp in the bright sunlight where the metallic paint (of the 8, anyway) really sparkles (red/blue/silver of course). Apprecaite the asthetics and style - of the 8 anyway!

I never noticed if WRXs have color or style, they all look invisible to me, very bland (they probably do have color, I'll have to concentrate and look at one some time).

3) If that exercise doesn't just make you want an 8 over anything else... and forget the other questions you had - then there's no love - just keep on lookin. :D
