VTEC can be configured for either power or fuel economy

Yeah but no matter what you configure a civic is still a civic. I don't care how quick it is.

VTEC was the **** in 1993 when I had my Prelude.

Talking about VTEC in 2008 is like comparing Prodigy dial-up to Verizon FIOS.

Fail.

They're terrible cars, but fantastic bicycles!

OP. Take the abuse like a right of passage. It doesn't mean anything unless you get upset over it.

I'm literally laughing out loud at work right now because of those "vtec just kicked in yo" pictures. I've seen most of them before but they still get funnier everytime.

Anyways, to the OP, just test drive the 8 and if you don't instantly fall in love then it isn't for you. The uniqueness of the car (as opposed to everyone and their mother who own a civic) makes it right for me.

Last words -> Search is your friend

Civic SI is a very capable car and with proper modding and tune, it can be real fast. Just remember you do sacrifice performance with the practicality. With comparison to an S2000, it's apple to orange. You'll get less space and storage but performance wise.... well I don't think it needs be said. With all the civic ricers dragging down the image of VTEC resulting in retarded pictures being posted (well I guess there are just as many for rotary engines), you just need to know that it's a key factor that's making an S2000 shine after 6k RPM whereas in RX-8 you'll feel no kick throughout which is a dissappointment to many. It all comes down to which car really suits your current needs the most and what exactly you are looking for.

Now stop typing like an idiot.

The reason you feel a kick is the lack of engine smoothness that the linear pull of the rotary has.

A WRX guy once told me about his ex-S2000....VTEC all the lag without the boost.

Now that is simply the difference in knowledge of how a real sports car is suppose to handle and thinking they know how they handle..Real sports cars shift smooth like a knife cutting through warm butter because they are designed to..no "kick' needed.

Ta da:

User Error.. I love that phrase!

Smooth but no power? That's another story. You'd be amazed how brainwashed you can be when it comes to praising RX-8 then having to come to face reality when seeing reviews from other car owners. This may sound bad but this car IS a compromise of sportiness and practicality.

Delhi, having an STI as DD, strange enough I never felt the VTEC was all the lag without boost. You must be getting the phrase from one of VTEC pics . It compensated the lack of power under 6k rpm very well and beyond 6k it was pure pleasure.

I call BS! Your friend is full of it. But from what you are saying, you probably want a 1/4 mile car. Get a 350ZX, EVO, or STI. The RX8 is for drivers.

VVT-i is from toyota which is mostly seen on corollas. Vtec is just a part of the ecu that opens valves a 3500rpm escorting more are into the engine, rotary engines have something similar to that but is no that technical....

VTEC IS NOT SPECIAL ALMOST ABOUT EVERY CAR OUT HAS ITS OWN VERSION OF IT

I HATE HONDAS
