RX8 your daily driver?

Alright I know your out there, any road warriors like myself who drive there RX8 as a daily driver? If you do, your my hero I don't ever hear anyone say (unless I'm not searching enough on here) my 8 is my daily driver. We all know how much these 8's burn on gas in most cases what do you do to get a bit of better gas mileage. I get about 16-18 mpg driving in most cases 65mph but when traffic hits ouch. I've had my 8 for over a month now and love it more than my previous car (had for 4 years). Burns gas but heck what can I say, when you love your car, it doesn't really matter unless gas prices sky rocket lol.

EricB 10-31-2012 08:39 PM

yeah i daily my car.

slammed on springs and hella sunk on oem rims, scratching my midpipe on speedbumps errrr day.

lol.

i dont get what your asking? what we do to conserve? Thats easy, have a lighter foot.

rx8fan23 10-31-2012 08:44 PM

Yup its my dd.

The fuel economy doesnt bother me. I bought a sports car i pay the price.

It's not the miles per gallon but the smiles per mile.
And i have alot of those

Chad D. 10-31-2012 08:52 PM

My DD for years now. Love it!

Leonheart 10-31-2012 08:53 PM

True, yeah I don't really care about the gas price just wondering if they where others out there who use there 8 as a daily communte and travel, I also know gas savers like walmart for example is another way to save a few dollars for premium. I've been lucky not to experience a speedbump yet but dang man I can only imagine it, I was considering getting coilovers for mine but just thinking about it, how do the springs feel as a daily driver? I agree with you fan23, how many miles do you travel per day? I get about 30 miles per day driving 40 minutes to work and back.

comebackqid 10-31-2012 08:57 PM

Yeap its my daily and I wouldn't have any other way, as matter of fact this car has ruined me for other cars I find myself having a hard time driving anything less than if the shifter isn't awesome, great handling, and all the other perks of the RX8 I don't even want to drive it.

My car is 2005 GT modded to the max pretty much. 90k+ miles and counting.

Bremma 10-31-2012 09:15 PM

Yip my 8 is my DD too. Bit annoying on the roads round these parts since the earthquake tho...

Chino_rx3 10-31-2012 09:25 PM

My DD ,, bought it rebuilt it love it. And gas o is better than my sequioa or my previous Rx7 lol. Love it drive it in highway in Tampa area and love this turns... My kids love it too .

Sugarfree135 10-31-2012 09:33 PM

Mines my DD as well although my job is weird it's only 3 miles from my house and I only work 3 days a week most of the time lol So gas isn't a huge deal for me I guess. Luckily the wife pays for her own gas as well :-P

Deviltrini 10-31-2012 10:01 PM

If you are getting 16-18mpg you are lucky my friend my 8 is a DD but I get around 4-8mpg I drive it like its meant to be driven I guess. If you are trying to save on gas then I would probably not have an 8 for a DD.

Junkman 6394226 10-31-2012 10:04 PM

Daily Driver (and only car) with 120K miles. I've thought about selling it, trading it, swapping a piston motor in but I fell in love instead. Like comebackqid said, other cars are ruined for me.

17-20 mpg average with lots of revving and WOT. Still runs strong.

pistonhater 10-31-2012 10:08 PM

I guess I'll be the first one to change the flow of responses:cwm27:

My 8 is NOT my DD. I actually did not want it to be my DD when I bought it. I live relatively close to work, so DDing the 8 would be a waste of gas in my case.

MY DD is the total opposite of the car: older 4X4 truck, lift kit and mud tires, LOL. Ironically, my truck is bigger, heavier but it gives me better than MPG than the 8:eek:

Having the truck has been a life saver during heavy rain days and snow days. Where I live is all steep hills, so I DO NOT like driving the 8 when it rains or when it snows. So the 4X4 truck takes care of that. I know the 8 could handle bad weather, but I just don't like driving it unless the weather is nice outside.

The nice thing about not driving the 8 everyday is that when I get to drive it I'm almost desperate to drive it; so it's twice an amazing experience:cwm27:

Arca_ex 10-31-2012 10:15 PM

I'm still DD'ing this car... project sped up way more than I intended. Looking for a dd now...

Fixed back seat, 6 point harness, cage, no a/c, no stereo, no interior like a baws.
It was cool for about a couple weeks lmao...

Johnvx1k 10-31-2012 10:23 PM

My 8 is my DD as well! Kind of sucks driving around a town I don't know (transferred colleges) in a lowered 8. I don't even pay attention to the gas mileage though. When I fill up I don't even look at the total, I just grab the receipt and check it later when I am looking through my account. I love this car regardless :)

I would never put cheap gas in my car, id rather use regular from a station like shell or bp before i put premium from walmart/delta in.

Im lowered excessively on sprint springs, the ride is great, probably because im on bilstein shocks. If i were to do it over again i would have bought coilovers and sold my oem bilsteins and done the install myself. Would have came out to the same amount of money.

Speedbumps are generally okay when i had my cat on, just a light scrape with just me in the car. With the RB midpipe i scrape it harder. I have to fabricate a skid plate before more damage is done.

I love my car.

monchie 10-31-2012 11:15 PM

Yep, i drive it everyday to work. I only drive this to work and hardly on my days off, because it uses a lot of gas. Anyway, we use the other car to go out.

Shumster 10-31-2012 11:28 PM

If she wasn't my DD i'd miss her

gfailure 11-01-2012 02:56 AM

The only reason it's not my DD it's because I live so close to where i work that I walk there most of the days (unless I have somewhere to go right after work), so any driving I do, I do mostly on weekends and nights out. If i drove daily, it would be my DD.

Habs24 7 11-01-2012 03:38 AM

Ours is a daily driver for both wifey and I. We work different shifts. I get home with it at 5:30 am and she's out the door at 7am. Both of us have 35 mile round trips. This car has spoiled us so much that neither one of us wants to drive our other car that gets 32mpg (unless it's calling for thunderstorms or snow). But were both at the age that we have less than 20 good driving years left (reflexes), so why not enjoy it :yesnod:

Brettus 11-01-2012 04:23 AM

not only is it my daily driver ( of over 100,000 miles ) but :

It's my work ute -you wouldn't believe what i,ve put through that hole in the back.
It's my limo (took 3 lawyers to lunch in it only yesterday)
It's my track car
It's my twisty road sports car
It,s my main street attention grabbing cruiser
It's my drag racer -V8 destroyer
It,s my money pit
It's my hobby/passion

Very versatile cars these ........

dude you are going to frezze in that thing at night time do you still have heat?

ZumnRx8 11-01-2012 04:56 AM

^ take off everything covering the shifter...heat from the tranny. :-) Worked in my FC last winter :-) + Natural Heat from the Engine..traveling through the AC ducts.

04Green 11-01-2012 07:36 AM

It is my DD. 70 mile round trip commute, 21 mpg.

It is my Track Car, yes mr vette, you just got passed, again, by a 1.3L car

It is my people hauler, me + 3 in comfort.

It is also stress relief, tinker time, and minor hauler, truck for the big stuff.

RJayX-8 11-01-2012 08:13 AM

Yup it's my DD don't worry bout gas imma burn it one way or another.

my 8 is not my dd and gets stored for winter ~6 months a year. i bought it for a toy (bday present to myself. had it for almost 5yrs and its paid off for almost a year. lots of mods lots of money. i dont care about gas prices because my dd beater truck is worse than my 8.

because i dont dd when i do drive it i drive the shit out of it and get ~220mi per tank. i dont care how hard you drive your 8 (unless fi) you should be getting more than 4-8mpg. i think somethings wrong with your car

ShinkaEvo 11-01-2012 09:56 AM

DD, and track some times....:)
Never have to top off my oil between oil changes.
Almost 8 years, still loving it. Start saving for next RX tho. lol

GK1707 11-01-2012 10:04 AM

Mines is also my DD I average about 8-11mpg no joke. Nothing but city driving. Usually its gets better on the highways tho. The car is just so fun to drive that I actually dont mind the mpg.

AZ R3 11-01-2012 03:28 PM

I get about 13mpg city, this thread has made me feel a lot better about that fact lol

Normally it's cool enough in AZ in Nov to be without AC, I dont know wtf is up with this year

ghost9light 11-01-2012 06:05 PM

My 8 is my daily driver, i love it... Fits like a glove and ive never been in any other car that i have felt more comfortable in, even when i take a 14 hour none stop drives to Daytona Beach.
Matter of fact the bouncy soft feel makes me sick when im driven in my wife's Audi A6 2.7t, or Sonata.

ShawnMua 11-01-2012 07:17 PM

Mine is my DD and love it every second and penny on gas, i get around 18/20 mpg. only vehicle, and saving to go boosted or swap.

Loki 11-01-2012 07:49 PM

Daily therapy more like.

That sounds like a mechanical problem. I think you'd have a hard time getting fuel economy down to 4 on the track actually.

fc2se 11-01-2012 09:46 PM

Daily driver here. That was a key selling point for me. 18/25 mpg unless I tear up some back roads. I sometimes miss the 2 seat design of my old RX-7, but otherwise no regrets.

Heeroguy 11-02-2012 04:30 PM

mine was my daily drive, bought it 1 year ago almost put 30,000 miles on it cause i would use any excuse to take a drive, but 3 sets of tires in a year and 3-4 fill ups a week made me get a daily driver.

now it still had to be fun so i picked up a mazdaspeed protege, and blew the motor within a week so my rx8 is my dd again lol

wrightcomputing 11-02-2012 05:08 PM

Rx8 is my daily driver & track whore

Babydollboxer 11-05-2012 02:51 AM

I drive my 8 EVERY DAY, have had her for 2 months and still stop and stare at her lol. I can walk to work and it would take me 5 mins, I choose to warm up my baby and drive in style.

200.mph 11-05-2012 06:52 AM

i enjoy having you guys over and we will have to plan more meets. keck03 and i have been talking about trying to get a 8 rally together like the mr2 one i co drove with him. it will have to be in the spring tho. lol. mean time its almost ski trip weather

flamebird1313 11-05-2012 07:05 AM

I currently use my 8 as a dd, but I might get a crappy $1000 beater for winter, since I'm slightly skeptical on how the 8 will do in snow

Wingznut 11-05-2012 11:58 AM

My RX-8 is my daily driver. I also own an Accord, but it never gets driven, because the RX-8 is so much fun.

The gas mileage doesn't bother me, because I knew exactly what I was getting into when I bought it.

This.

She was my DD when my commute was almost 40 miles each way, and she's my DD now that my commute is less than ten miles 3-4 days a week. :)

paimon.soror 11-05-2012 01:42 PM

my DD as well. Just threw her winter shoes on for her 3rd winter season.

ZarkoRX8 11-05-2012 02:24 PM

yep my DD too! love it, love it even more when its at 9k rpm

:yelrotflm

you need to fix your car man. either something is seriously wrong with your car or you need to go and take math 101 again

ShadowDragon78 11-05-2012 02:45 PM

I have an older 2002 F150 rear-wheel drive, V6,4.2L that I drive to do errands or go to work. I hate driving the 8 in bad weather. I work hard to keep the brilliant black clean and I like to keep it that way as much as possible.

Bullitt 11-05-2012 02:46 PM

Yes.

ATL-GP 11-06-2012 09:13 AM

Yes, it's my DD and I drive it about 75 miles a day. On my second motor with about 60k on it, 120k miles on the car total....still running like a champ

04Green 11-06-2012 12:59 PM

@ Chris... Um, yeah, get it checked.. I get better than that at the track, at 120.....

Big_Hoss 11-07-2012 11:14 AM

My r3 is my dd. Gas sux but when the car makes you feel like a boss and is a riot to drive, all those worries quickly go away.

Daily driver: 60 miles daily commute during the week, 200 miles round trip on weekends. 61,000 flawless miles so far, consistent 24 mpg average.

I've been looking, but I haven't driven any other cars that would replace this one....
