Cool RX8 Warrenty and Mod's to your car

Now i know that there are certain mods you can do to your car without voiding the warrenty, but let me give you an idea of what i want to do when i purchase my rx8

1) exhaust - looking for a high flow cat and a very good sounding exhaust system ( not that ricey bullshit you hear on some cars)

2) intake

3) short throw shifter

And that's really it while under warrenty.

Now my question, is mazda a bitch about doing **** like this and voiding you out? I know of that law that states if say you mod the suspension and the engine blows, they can't say your suspension caused the engine to go. But still....... any advice? Thanks

they havent voided me for my K&N

in fact every time i take in for an oil change, the techs get all excited and rev it up. its pretty funny..but i dont think those mods will cause them to void your entire warranty

i dont want them to void any of it to be honest. i am going to use it as a DD as well as a weekend fun car.... so god help me if say i flood the engine, take it in and they say ... " well you're SOL. The bill will be 1000 dollars. kthxbye"

Do a google search on Magnusson-Moss Act. That will tell you everything you need to know about your warranty and what can and can't be voided by the dealerships or Mazda and for what reasons.

no i realize that, but for instance:

mitsubishi recently started reading the ECU of their evo's so they can deny warrenty claims based on " excessive revving / racing"

does mazda do this type of thing with the rx8? I havent had any issue with my mazda 3, but honestly the mz3 is a DD and i hardly even wash the damn thing

Nothing exhaust, an intake, or a short throw shifter can do will void your warranty. Now if your intake allowed small pepple to get down into the intake and it caused damage inside the engine... that would be different story. But chances of that happening are about 1,000,000/1 in comaparrison to your chances of getting hit by lightening. None of those things are likely to cause a propblem to you warranty as long as they are installed properly.

There can be such a wide variance between the different dealerships' interpretation of warranties that no one on this forum can tell you for certain what any particular mod a service department may try to void your warranty. Even if they wrongly tell you that parts or all of your warranty is voided by your mods, you will likely have to involve Mazda NA in the issue and it will become a real hassle even though in the end your warranty may be "reinstated" by Mazda NA.

Best bet is to look for a customer-friendly service department and hope they will overlook any questionable mods.

I took my car in for service one time and asked the head tech about the warranty thing and he said told me my engine warranty was automatically void because I installed an aftermarket intake on the car. I told him that he was wrong and that only if the part was directly responsible for a failure on the engine was it void. He then agreed with me and apoligized. Watch out for them, they will try to get away with that bs. Read up on that magnusson act. If they ever give you crap about warranty and parts then show that to them.

mazda produces a mazdaspeed cold air intake and a mazdaspeed exhaust which sounds really good(and you can order both and find info on both on this forum). both products are warrantied by mazda and will not in any way void the warranty. as for a short throw shifter, i bet you could get any brand you want and not have to worry about any heat what so ever from a dealer.

Just because of this warranty thing, which is for some reason really starting to scare me I was thinking about swapping from rb intake to mazdaspeed. But I hear severel people have had problems with it sucking in water and bogging down the engine for a short period of time, until all the heat evaporates it.

If you decide to go through with the MS intake send me a pm with a reasonable offer on your RB intake. I'd be interested.
