for now its just talk untill i get my friend to put his money where his mouth is and actually race me. my friend has an automatic 07 tl type s with titronic and he thinks he can blow my 04 6 speed rx8 away, turbo xs ehaust with xpipe and obx header, secret weapon intake and hks ignition system, mm cobb accessport. im just wondering what everyone thinks for now untill i meeet up with my friend

No offense but all that stuff gives you like 5-10 hp at the wheels at most and thats being modest and considering you have a good compression motor.

go to a track and you can walk away with bragging rights just have a nice set of tires.

The TL type s would still probably win even with all those mods on. But it should be close. But please do it on a track... Dont kill yourself.

im in ct so its pretty much winter here thats why i tossed this one up. my friends and i already have are cars put away so we are waiting till spring to settle this one at the track. my other friend has a z with some mods im sure il be close to last against both

As other's have said, you're probably not getting much out of all those mods.

On paper, yes. On paper, they have professional drivers running tests multiple times. They don't just take the first 0-60 time or 1/4 mile time and call it a day. They do multiple runs and take the best time. The RX-8 takes a really good, aggressive launch to hit the acceleration numbers most magazines claim. It's not impossible, but the point is that he will have an easier time with consistent runs.

I did that shit when I was 18. I haven't since. It's kinda stupid to do that on public roads. At that speed, you typically don't have enough time to react and you've probably never had to react to anything significant at those speeds. You aren't prepared to do it as you dont have experience.

Also, if you topped out at 144, your car is running a little weak or something. I know it can go a little bit more than that before it stops and I was on a slight uphill when I did it.

It's a public road. You never know when someone might randomly decide to cross the highway. You never know when an animal might do the same. You never know when there's some small thing to destroy your tire etc. Point is... it's stupid to go those speeds and very much so illegal. There's a reason speeding beyond a certain point will frequently have penalties of jail time, impounded car, loss of license etc.

The forum also has a pretty strict "no street racing rule". You can argue against it all you like, but it's the rule so don't bother. It's been that way since the beginning and isn't going to suddenly change.

You will need forced induction to beat that TL. Save up about $500-600 and get that 55shot of nitrous. Thatll put you in range

i own both a tl type s (auto) and an rx8. and from my experience you will lose

286 hp w/around 240 tq

vs

232 hp w/ 160ish torque (Correct me if i'm wrong)

actually, we look at torque. and you think your tiny little 160ftlbs gonna pull hard at highspeed than TL's 200+ftlbs?

the tl will pull the quick start off of course but if you know anything about the 8, you would know that the torque for the 8 stays constant while most cars lose torque with shifts and different rpms

and you drive a r3 its heavier and slower than the older versions

please go search a TL dyno map I bet the hole torque line is above RX8's torque line.
also RX8 being RWD the drivetrain loss is alot more than FWD TL.

09+ has different gearing if anything its actually faster than pre 09 version.

my bad the r3 isnt heavier but it does for some reason pull a slower quarter mile time

go race your boy... don't say we didn't warn you. there are times where i am following my wife and we play around in the streets even during mild acceleration i have to push the throttle more than her to at least catch-up to her. i love my 8 and i'm very sure she can out perform certain vehicles.

but this is one of those races where i can guarantee you will lose.

i didnt start this thread as a shit talking thread, it was just to get people talking. im just wondering why everyone is so against the 8. on paper (yes i know dif driver etc) the 8 and tl are close in quarter mile times and hp per lbs car weight , so why cant my car with some slight mods shave off .15 of a second and at least make it a decent race

I actually never cared about quater mile times, ride my bike half a year most of the cars are slow as fuck compare to 107 hp pulling only 420lbs + me.

im just sayin i paid 600 for a cobb, 600 for the hks ignition, 600 for exhaust and pipe, plus whatever couple hund for the intake and all that cant shave enough time to even make it a decent race where it will come down to whos a better driver. this is hard for me to believe

I just about bought an '08 TL Type-S before I got my Jeep. Now, As much as I love the Rex, the TL-S would definitely beat it in a straight line. A stock TL, probably not, but the Type-S... ...Definitely. (unless of course, he just can't drive)

because we dont care about street racing not only its dangerous but also pointless. if you ever wanna prove yourself, go to a race track where you can show what an RX8 is truely made for.

talking about dangerous? your talking about your "sweet street bike" and how fast it is compared to cars. as i stated a couple of time if you guys can read, 2 of my friends and i are GOING TO THE TRACK IN THE SPRING TO RACE the z, tl and 8. NOT TO RACE IN THE STREET, my boy wiht the z wont even go over the speed limit because he totaled an si and almost died from fucking around on the street

What track are you planning to run him at? Not a 1/4 mile. A limiter at 130 wont be a problem at a 1/4 mile track. Also, if the only reason you can pass him is because a limiter, I wouldn't call that a win.

its just a statement if a tl can go 130 and a 8 can go 140+ which car is faster ? its gonna be a quarter mile race in jersey, this post was just for discussion on why an 8 cant shave off enough time to make it a decent race
