If you're talking about the Carmax on plano parkway, then I believe I test drove that very same car. I loved it. Car and Driver called the 8 a Lotus Elise station wagon. I guess you could call it an S2000 station wagon as well. If you don't need the space, S2000. For us 6 ft+ people and those who need at least a semi-decent trunk to hall stuff around, get the 8. Pretty simple. The 8 won't be a bad choice though, if you do need the practicality. But since you're talkin autocross, the S2000 sounds delicious.

The only engines that are failing repeatidily are the auto 4-ports. Dont worry about engines blowing up, my guess (just a guess of course) would be 150k-200k will be the life of the renesis. The old rx7's that weren't FI were good for lots of miles, maybe a apex bearing replacement at 100k and then good to go for another 100k.
Both are great cars, you really can't go wrong, with what you save $$$ wise in the s2000 you make up for in insurance savings.

If any of you dallas/plano/lewisville etc owners are willing to take me for a spin I'd love to check out the car in the hands of an enthusiast. I never really took the carmax test drive car over 4500 rpms or around any corners at real speed.

I think I wil be in a RX8 shortly. Found a few leftover 05's with sport package and aero pack for about 23.5 out the door. Are there any small ala carte options I need to get besides sport and appearance kit like homelink, auto dimming mirror etc. All the 05's come with the cool flip key/keyless entry right?
Lastly, what build date should I look for, I'm guessing early 05 or nov-dec 04 to avoid all those 04 recalls?

Right I understand all that about the S. The girlfriend has an 00 grand prix white with red and black interior which is about as raw of an S as you can get. I thought about it carefully and I'd like 75% of the S2000 performance with 200% more practicality and a bit more comfortable ride.
Made an offer to a local Dallas dealer but they messed up and lost 2K Mazda cash back since they didn't R&R their leftover 05's 2 weeks ago. They will get back on me to see if they can do about 23 out the door.
I also found a list of 8 other cars in TX that are 6spd sport in white, titanium, blue and silver so I will call to see who has the best deals. Are those 8000 off MSRP stories really true or does that vary from dealer to dealer?
