rx8 vs 2002 maxima se 6spd

Hey,
I just want to share the story with those who do not believe (doesn't it sound like a line from Matrix?...). Today on highway I saw a blue Maxima SE on my tail. We couldn't really race or anything stupid like that because of traffic. So he flashes his lights and pulls to the right lane. I do the same and then we both take an exit. I follow him (I don't know the guy) thinking what the hell. His maxima looks modified (exaust, suspension). We drive for a while and then he pulls into a dead-end road, with at least 3/8 of a mile of an asphalt. So I roll down my windows and ask him - what you have there buddy? Aaahh it's just a 2002 maxima se. So I ask - Is it 6 speed? - yep - he says - 3.5 engine with 255 hp (I looked up the torque later it is 246 lb-ft at 4400 rpm). Well - I say - any mods? - just exaust and intake - (around 260 - 265 hp I reckon). You want to try it he asks? ******* A - I say excited. On the third horn... I did a 5K rpm launch and I am pulling away... till the end of the road I was about one and a half car ahead. Lets do it again.. He got an early launch so I was behind but slowly caught up. So after I got home I looked up specs for the maxima. C and D says: 0-60 6.0, 15.7 to 100 and 14.7 @ 97 over 1/4. Hopefully nobody will claim that rx8 cannot do 5.9 (I do not know whether it does or not but it beats the car that does 6.0 assuming ceteris paribus).
So if you don't believe follow the white rabbit...

Alot of people will find out the hard way a rx-8 is fast...
My friend in his mind thinks rotaries are not fast... i dont know .... its in his head and wont come out... then he drove one at a local dealer ship that had a 88 RX-7 old one n/a auto.. and his like DAMN... rotaries are so bad ***...they haul ***...

i believe rx-8 is cabable of doing 5.5 or so... by the way how many miles do you have ?

As miles are traveled the performace will increase

C&D #'s

FYI, Stock 2K2-3 manual Maximas can do a 14.2 - 14.3 in the 1/4 at best. C&D's times aren't that great (but then again, they're supposedly corrected for standard temp and pressure). I've have seen some huge discepencies in the 1/4 mile times and braking distances within even the same issue (esp. the one where they talked about the 14.7 Max).

Keep in mind the Max is a bit heavier than the 8 as well, around 3200-3300 lbs (my 02 Max automatic is 3218 lbs).

I think alot of people (or it just seems that way) assume the 8 is slower than it is because of its smooth power delivery. I am sure it will surprise more than a few on the road. Not the fastest, but fast enough !
Just wait until Ike sees this thread, he'll have something to say try and poke holes in your story:o

Many magazines do it on a perfect road... with no bumps... so times would increase since the roads are perfect,.. right

Contrarily, I think most peeps think the 8 is fast...simply because it looks fast. I don't think we be surprising anyone with the 8 On the other hand if the motor was in Mazda Minivan you might surprise a whole lot of peeps

Ike would be right- sorry guys, little to close to street racing, which we try to discourage. Gotta close it.
