First of all, if you haven't driven an 8 yet, go do that immediately. No sense in trying to make your decision based on others' opinions. Not sure why anyone would decide to buy a car without driving it first.

If you only need a two seater, and don't care for much refinement, and highly value straight line speed, then a Z might be a good fit. But if you want decent cargo space, room for 3 other passengers, refinement, amenities, telepathic handling, and a more involved/connected driving experience, then the 8 might be a good fit.

To be 100% honest, I've owned and driven cars with more torque (including a G35), and the amount of torque in the 8 has never been an issue for me. Once you get used to keeping the revs high it's not a big deal. However, if your into drag racing from stoplight to stoplight (hence your incident in your rsx) the RX8 is not the car for you.

Most of us bought RX-8's because:

1. Superior handling in turns - which after all is the hallmark of a true sportscar. It's 50/50 weight balance provides near instantaneous response. You can dive into a turn with much more confidence than the Z.
2. High revving, turbine-like, rotary engine. It's like driving a jet.
3. Handles like a sports car but has the polish of a sports coupe.
4. You feel like you wear the '8. It's like a four wheeled motorcycle.
5. The rotary is so much more elegant from an engineering perspective than ol' fashioned piston.
5. Many other reasons.
This sums it up perfectly! Get the 8 if you agree!

I can understand where RX8NWA is coming from. Big torque feels nice, esp. at stoplights or just pushing the pedal in traffic. It's easy, it's gratifing, it's pretty darn nice feeling yourself being pushed ahead with little fuss as if by a magic hand. Detroit has sold people this is how to judge cars.

The 8 has little of that big torque feel esp from a dead stop.. But what the 8 does is nice too, so go drive one and see. Corner carving and balance has its own feel good gratification. Your friends comments about your possible choice of an 8 show they're afraid you'll do something they don't dare to, i.e., get a true sport car that can do what their cars can't. Worse they may see you happy and enjoying this different car.... making them feel their own beliefs may not be 100% correct.

It's hard being different sometimes amongst your buds, and the 8 will certainly make you stand out.

This is probably why we hear so many complaints about our cars on here and outside the forum.

get the 350z and start posting over on their forums... you obviously dont see the reasons behind getting the 8.

^agreed with caveney...going off you statement about how you race: then this is not your car, and you will be happier with the Z. Good Luck either way. Also Razz gave great advice!

I had a Z and now I have an 8, the Z definitely blows the doors off this car in a straight line, BUT this car is so much more involving than the Z and just feels like it was built for the track, definitely more fun. Z=understeer, 8=neutral .

why encourage him? he just said he totaled his RSX racing a GTI and it's probably not on the track! go with Z since you seem to have straight-line as a priority.

My friend has a 350z with some few breathing mods and I have an rx8 with a (beautiful) borla exhaust. When we race from a roll on the freeway he isnt that much faster than me. He'll walk me, but its not "blow the doors off" faster. When we race from a stop, we are even through the first 2 gears then he will really start to pull away in 3rd, but nothing too fantastic. Some of this may be due to traction. He has to shift a bit sooner than me, but thats either an advantage or disadvantage depending on how you look at it. You will feel the torque alot more in the Z, but its really not a big deal. If you do get the Z, get new wheels that are the same width to get rid of that pesky understeer problem. If you really want torque, dont buy a japanese car...get a GT Mustang. They are not really bad cars, and Ford put some pride in the GT version unlike every other (lesser) model they've ever made. They'll "blow the doors off" of a 350z. Well, about as much as a Z will on an RX8.

Dont street race and endanger other people you selfish fool. Unless you are on a clear freeway or at the drag strip. I hope you take pride in your next vehicle, whatever it is, and dont run the risk of damaging it like your Honda.

If you're going to be street racing, get a 350z so that you don't make the cops more likely to pull me over in my 8.

Theres a guy at my office with a mustang 5.0 thats pushing around 500HP, upgraded suspension, tires, brakes, exhaust, the whole deal. Every time he asks me to race, I tell him "sure, lets just go up to *nearby winding mountain road* and see who comes out on top after a few miles."

Every single time he says "hell no. I don't go around corners."

man i love that, people with all thier mass hp producing cars are scared on a real road track !!!! 10 secs isnt no where as fun or heart-pounding then racing on a road track that last a lot longer then 10 measly little secs!

I hope he doesn't get one bc what a waste of an 8...it will be in a heap at the junkyard in a week. Or even worse hurt some other competent motorist.
