Are rx8 suppose to shake ?

There is an rx8 im currently looking at buying. So anyways i went up there today and jumped in it. I noticed that when it is idling a tad under 1k and then you give it some gas it shakes some until it gets about 1.3 - 1.5k RPMS. Is this normal for a rotary engine? I made the comment to the dealer and he said that is how the rx8's are...

flat out no.

most likely 1 or both of the motor mounts are bad.

have them fix it.

What do you mean by shake?

Are you talking about the shifter? That is normal.

Yah the shifter shakes as well as the car. But it only happens when its under 1k RMP. When driving the car was not shaking or anything like that.

Well it depends, but just get the motor mount checked. It also depends on how you drove it, if it high rpm the car is shaking that could mean the motor mount.

Well you say under 1k rpm, check the plugs and have them replace the ignition coils and wires. That should solve the problem

Yah it only really shakes when its from about .8k to 1.3k... other than that it drives smooth. I am going to have a mazda dealer ship run a check on everything before i buy it.

Im getting it for 10,000 :D 04 48000 miles

I have a auto and my car shudders as well but its normal, my motor mounts are fine... now if you have excessive shaking then obviously its a motor mount. I do not think its the coils, plugs and wires...

maybe he's just talking about a rough idle though? if you're getting it from a mazda dealer then have them take a look for you.

My car shakes as well under 1000 rpm, above that, its smooth as butter. The car has been like that ever since ive owned it, and its been to mazda a few times. I assumed it was normal.

could be it doesn't have the latest reflash, tsb 13, i think, which is meant to address just this problem, i think.

otherwise motor mounts sounds like a good answer.

The shifter should purr in your hand. The car itself should not vibrate.

The only time I feel any vibration is around 127 MPH. The rotary engine has 3 major moving parts and should run as smooth as anything you have ever sat in or on.

And, avoid the 2004 model year. Stick to 2005 and up. $10k is a good price but spend a little more and get a car that Mazda has had time to work out the bugs with.

Any car is bad news when there is a thread about how many engines you have had replaced, mostly the 2004 model
