is the rx8 a sports car? the people at my350z say its not... They also say that the only thing the rx8 can beat the 350z in is cornering? Is this true?

350 is way bigger than 8.
that said, the letter "Z" is way cooler than "RX", duh.

In all seriousness ...
Read a comparison in a magazine (Motortrend, Road and Track, Car and Driver). Believe the people that test and compare cars for a living, not disgruntled 350Z owners.

I was just browsing the 350Z forums earlier today, just outa curiosity to see why they chose their Zs over an 8.
And geez, I feel really stupid now for buying such an ugly, underpowered, unreliable, 4-door family sedan. What WAS I thinking?
I'm surprised at the overall tone of the Z forums regarding the 8. Sure, we trash talk the Z a bit, but it's mostly in good-natured fun. We generally give it the respect it deserves.
But wow, they're NASTY over there. Not everyone of course, but as an overall general impression, they're downright MEAN.
It does make me appreciate this forum all the more though...
Oh, and yes: the 8 is a True Sports Car because it was purpose-built as one. It's not a modified sedan, it's not a collection of parts from other cars, etc.

who cares what they say. We all want to feel good about what we buy and some with small egos and penises need to put down others to justify what they bought. Its all psych 101
father I want to kill you
mother I want to buy an RX8
flatso out

The people on the 350Z forums are just bitter because their 350Z keeps getting beaten in comparison tests by the RX-8. Most recently, in a March 2004 comparison test, Motor Trend ranked the RX-8 ahead of the 350Z and the S2000.
They're also bitter because they have to replace tires every 5000 miles, because the plastics in their interiors are of shoddy substandard quality, because they have no luggage space despite having a bigger, heavier car, and because people occasionally remind them that their cars look like a frog taking a dump. :p
Seriously - the 350Z is a great sports car. So is the RX-8, it's just oriented and focused to different priorities than the 350Z. The 350Z takes after the Mustang in a heavier muscle car focus; the RX-8 is focused on being a great handling, nimble feeling, practical sports car.
Regards,
Gordon

I have a video showing the rx8 running the equal times as the Z driven by the same dude. The 8 is most definitly a sports car, and i think those herbs over on the 350 site are just jealous cause they have boring old pistons and not rotors.......

You guys bash the Z they bash the 8, the Z is faster the RX-8 is more nimble and practical, and they're both nice cars with good looks. I just don't see why grown adults have to act like such children and bash someone elses toy just because they have a different one.

Sports car is a subjective title. One can make the arguement that a sports car can have no more than two seats, weigh no more than 2000lbs, have or not have this or that, etc. I tend to believe that there are many factors that go into deciding if any individual "sporty" car actually is a sports car. In a way, the 8 is too useful and comfy to be a sports car, but because its handling is so good and its looks so stylish and distinctive, I definitely think the 8 qualifies as a sports car.
