probably dumbest question. where can I find out:

1. what spec for Shinka ?
2. year to year changes ?
3. what spec for a GT ?
4. performance numbers ?
5. basically, all the basics.

it is probably in a FAQ somewhere, can someone point me to it ? thanks.

I'm pretty certain that Mazda, like most other car manufacturers, has a website that lists specs, features, options and accessories for all of their car models.

I'm sure that if you can find that, you'll have your answers. (except maybe #2 which can answered by using the search function of this site).

You can find them all out at www.mazdausa.com or www.wikipedia.org. My god, the car manufacturer has a website? Who'd have thought such a crazy thing!?

I just searched for like 1 minute, hardly even trying... advanced searched for titles only under "RX-8 discussion" for 2005. 3 threads called "2004 vs. 2005". at least 2 threads came up that were useful when I searched 2006. I can only assume there's similar results for other years. People arent just being ******** cause they can. We'll help with a lot of different and complex matters, but some things are just simple and dont really require that much effort to find on your own. Just to be a little helpful though:

biggest changes between years:

04 ATs seem to have a bad track record with maintenance so generally people recommend to stay away. 05 ATs seem to be a bit safer with maintenance but not much change. in 06 they upgraded the AT to have a 6 port 212 hp engine and 6 speed manumatic gearbox (older models were 197 hp and 4 speed). Each year had a few different paint colors and possibly special packages and such. All of these changes are listed on the wikipedia page so that should answer a few questions you asked. The info on wiki might not be 100% accurate, but it's a pretty good summary.

If you take a look at cars on autotrader.com, there is a link that will tell you the changes made by model and year to year on every car. It also gives the specs for each model and year. So you will have to search by 2004 to 2007 Mazda RX8 and then click on the oldest model and work your way up.
