RX8 side by side to S2000

Here is a link at the s2k.com with an 8 and a s2000 side by side. Eerie resemblance, specially the front shot.

You need to read all the posts on that page. Boy are those S2000 guys just as protective about their car as we are.

IMHO the S2000 is showing a little age. It looks kind of square next to the 8. Especially the gaping front end. The photo of the 8 would have looked much better without the bunny tooth.

It's sad that everyone on this board insists on hating on Mazda because they dared to make a four-door S2000.

Not everyone on the s2k board was bashing the RX-8. I take this statement above as a compliment.

No doubt about it, the S2000 has proven itself time and time again as being an unadulterated sports car with no compromises. However, I needed the compromises (mainly 4 seats).

Those pictures do look very similar, the 8 just looks a bit larger and more rounded in the fenders.

I suppose the argument from the Honda faithful is that the RX8 is low torque - high hp - and high revving. But Mazda is the one known for high revving, high hp engines due to the rotary - Honda Vtec is a recent incarnation in comparison. I don't see how you could argue that Mazda is copying Honda at all.

Thumbs down Enemy territory - stay out!

Yep. Nice pix. Confirms my choice of S2000 as #2.

Wow though, those forum guys there are (almost all) downright hateful of the RX-8! Anyone who posts trash talk like that in this forum (even about another car) amost always gets trashed right back, and rightfully so. Not so in that forum. One right after the next, trash talk about our RX-8. Man, I got halfway thru page 2 when I decided I've seen enough. Makes you think of signing up just to post things back at them. Wouldn't do any good though. Hardly anyone there seems older than 17 anyway.

Honda has been known for quite sometime about buiding high reving engines. The difference is that they use pistons.

I noticed that too. Sounded like a bunch of spoiled little kids. I like the s2k and all, but I sure wouldn't like to be associated with those type of guys.

Yeah, there's a bunch of ignorant fools claiming Mazda copied the s2000 so I posted this pic. The RX-7 looked almost just like the s2000 -- years before the s2000 ever came out...

Edit: Also, if you want to know where the shape of the taillights comes from, just look at the back of a Millenia, they're the same shape, and again, Mazda had that look years before Honda did.

the truth is that the s2k is such a bland looking car that any car can be claimed as copying it's design. that square mouth and tapered headlights are universal. so bland.

I'm from the s2ki forum. Love both cars. All forums have young kids and losers who make stupid comments. Both cars are high-revving, low-torque cars. I have never had a problem with torque in my S though. If I had the need the RX-8 would be sitting next to my S. Maybe in a couple of years when I start my family.
Waiting for my white/red RX-8.

That Airgate kid refuses to acknowledge the similarity. Now he's posted his S2000 next to that RX7 pic that m477 posted over there. Says "Ummmm, no." Can't see it! It's so obvious in so many ways! He acts like he's the final word on automotive styling. What a maroon!

Hold me back! Somebody hold me back!

Notice the S2000 has the optional "chin spoiler". Put it next to a silver with the app. pkg. and look out. :D

I have an S2K and post on S2KI - just ignore the RX8 bashers - there are always some that think anything they don't have is no good

I stopped by and looked at an 8 today. Didn't get to test drive, but did get to look at it and sit in it. I think it looks nice, the headroom (GT) was way too little. I am only 5'8" and my hair hit the liner with the power seat all the way down. With the driver's seat adjusted for me my knees hit when I climed in the back. So that means 2 of me could not fit - not a good sign. Funny thing is there is a bit more head room in the rear seat. I love having a moonrooi, so I don't know if I would get a car w/o one (even to get more headroom).

I am going to go back a snag a test ride, but the idea of replacing my 330i with the 8 as a daily driver looks like it might not be possible, Having to take the kids to school and pick them up (and they are growing taller all the time) might get tough.

The car I looked at had the red/black interior - not as bad looking as I thought, but I think I would prefer all black. The driver's seat was a little snug on my old (and wide) butt too.

A lot of the same things that make the S2000 a great car make the 8 a great car. The S2K is a little more "serious" - stiff ride and few creature comforts. THe 8 seems a real sports car as well, but has extras like fancy stereo, available nav system, rear seats, etc. I would not pick one over the other as I don't want to do without a drop-top car. I was hoping I could live with BOTH

The S2000 has all the fun of my '96 M Miata but a lot faster and a power top. If wish it did have DSC like the 8 though, at the limit the S2000 can come around if you don't watch it.

Dennis,
The seat height switch doesn't go all the way down with just one actuation. Ya gotta hit it again and it'll go even lower. If you're 5'8", there's no way you won't fit. I'm also about 5'8" and the roof line didn't even come to mind when I test drove one, most likely cuz I had 2 or so inches of clearance (a guess, cuz I didn't even think to check it). We have a whole bunch of 6'+ people here that fit & 1 just today that thought he didn't, but today he found out that he does! Same thing goes for rear seat. I fit back there very comfortably! Cozy? Yeah. Tight? Only if you're claustrophobic. You gotta be one big 5'8" in some unusual way.

Actually, I hit it SEVERAL times and it would go no further. I am 5' 8" with a 29" inseam, so I am not that tall or long-legged (size AROUND me is another matter ).

I will try to get in another car - maybe the power seat in this one was FUBAR or something.

You do push down on the "bottom seat button" to lowe it, correct? I pulled up and it didn't seem to raise it any either.

No 'fro, and the hair that is there is getting thinner and thinner in my old age

I need to score a test drive - like the S2000 the "love" will probably not set in until driving the car.....

Whether it was worth it or not. I signed up and shared my thoughts to provide balance to sportscardom.

based on my test drive of the S2000 and its features, etc. vs. the RX8. Actually the couple of people that test drove the 8 on the S2000 site really spoke highly of the car. The only thing one of them said was that it was not a "raw" as his S and referred to it as a negative. I equate that to not being bouncy, noisy, or having roar in wide open throttle. It cannot be power. The S is nice but so is the 8 - in a different way.

ALso, I am 5'8" and fit fine in my car; however, the new summer buzz clip has the spikey hair rubbing the headliner.

When they bash the 8 they're basically bashing the s2k because the 8 has some resemblance "not a copy" of the s2000. So if they're bashing they 8 on the looks they're just bashing themselves. Any whoo that red one rx-8 zoomster... by the comparison it looked like the 8 is happy while the s2000 looks lonely.

Yeah, my "8" is happy, my wife is happy, and I'm one lonely b@st@rd. I'm lonely for my car, and yeah - I almost forgot, I'm lonely for my wife too.
