Is this "shitknob" supposed to match the "kocklight" we discussed last week?

Totally! But when I came home today I had a delivery slip in the mailbox so something has come in but what? It could be: short shifter, voodoo, leather shiftboot, or a couple other things. It's like xmas all over (actually, Chanukah for me). I'll report back but it's going to be something good.

I ordered mine from my local dealer, but you can get them from Rosenthal Mazda also. It's listed as an MX-5 part, but the box and the instructions that come with it say MX-5 or RX-8 and it has shift pattern stickers for both cars.

Just black pots and kettles with glass houses and stones in their hands, that's all.

So I just went to the post office and picked up my package ... the SHORT SHIFTER!

Now I'm wondering what to do. I can't install it myself so I was going to have it installed at the dealer. They give me good deals cause I'm a regular and I don't want to mess it up.

But here's the thing: I've also ordered a leather boot from Polak and it's not here yet, neither is the voodoo ****. So I'm wondering if I should go this Saturday and have the ss installed but stick with the stock boot and **** for a while.

Would the ss work okay with those for now and then install the boot later? I don't know if I can wait until everything is in!!

On a side note, I also received the RR footwell LED's but my garage sucks and it's kinda cold out so I might have to wait until warmer weather to install them. That's IT for mods for a while cause the money is getting tight (esp. after that silly MS oil cap!).

The Shifter is the EASIEST install out there. Although I will admit, I had someone else show me how to do it the first time.

There is a thread somwhere about it here

found it

HOUSTON WE HAVE A PROBLEM!!!! Get OFF the phone with the dealership and BACK AWAY from the phone, everything is going to be O K A Y .

Zero: this thing is CAKE to install. Trust me, its' not worth the trip to the dealership, the grief they'll give you for 'altering the transmission', and the $$$ they'll charge you.
PM me, I'll walk ya through it.

I'll help for beer!
Once you've pulled the cover off once then doing it again for the boot won't be hard for you.

Jedi and DarkBrew,

I owe you guys beer many times over already. I totally respect you both.

Honestly I would love to do it myself. I don't have any special tools, just things like screwdrivers, pliers, wrench, tape. I'll study the DIY (already saved it before) and assuming I could find all the clips and my tools would suffice and it really is somewhat like CAKE (haha), maybe I could do it.

I don't have the benefit of any group members that close by. I am seriously thinking of driving to toronto this summer to meet up with you, Darkbrew and anybody else in T.O. Jedi, if I was ever down in CA, I would look you up for sure, brother. The "force" is strong in you.

Aaaaanyways, look if you're serious about guiding me through this (if necessary), I'll seriously think about it.

Let me know if you need help. Mine was installed in a parking lot using very basic hand tools. You'll be glad once you do it yourself. (with a little help)

thinking of ordering the VooDoo **** in black and wondering about the engraved shift pattern... is the knobmeister ***** made using the VooDoo/same thing as VooDoo? And is the shift pattern really that useful... I prefer the look of it without but dont think it looks bad with it. Not sure if I'd wanna spend the money for just that either... it's not much but still. Any opinions?

That is all you need. a screwdriver and a socket. It is really that easy. I had somebody show me how to do it, and i felt like an idiot after seeing how easy it was. Took a few minutes.

A buddy of mine had his **** engraved with the shift pattern just in case someone else had to drive his car.
Word of advice: Order it without the engraving, apply the shift ****, mark where the engraving should go and send back to get done.
The reason for that is it guarantees the engraving is straight and ends up exactly where you want it.
