RX8 Self Locks

Had the car about 6 months and have noticed about two dozen instances of the car locking itself while no one is around. Last time it happened I opened the trunk with the key phob and after closing the trunk (about 20 seconds later) the car locked itself. The phob was sitting on a table at the time - no chance that I had pressed it accidently. Anyone else having the same problem

I now own a RX8 but I had a Mazda6 before this. If you unlock the door(s) but don't open them in 45 seconds they relock themselves. Did you unlock them at all initially?

what im saying is that if the doors were already locked and then you pop the trunk the doors STAY locked BUT the alarm is disabled. when you reclose the trunk the alarm re-arms and the lights flash. so i was asking - do you think it locked because the lights flashed or did you hear them lock?

when i open my trunk even with the doors still locked... my alarm does not turn off or at least my shock sensor doesnt go off. Cuz many times has it happened where i dont unlock my car but just open my trunk and take out a jack or sumptin and close the trunk kind of hard and the alarm goes off.

What you talkin' bout'? According the my experience, what Mikelikes2drive says, and the manual:

"The trunk lid can be opened with the key or the transmitter even when the system is armed. The alarm will not come on and the system will remain armed."

So there should be no flashing when the trunk is unlocked/locked.

Yep, this would explain it. I unlocked my doors with the FOB, then without opening any doors, FOB the trunk open, then closed it ......... 30 seconds later the doors locked and lights flashed. If you open a door after unlocking the car, self locking won't happen.

Thanks Nemesis. You had the answer. Don't know why they programmed the car to do this, however at least I now know why it happens.

Also note that if you lock using the key fob, and the lights DON'T flash, you need to check. I did that once, then discovered my trunk lid wasn't completely closed. I closed the trunk lid and then the lights flashed.
