Yes, but the car had dumped below 10,000 for a good example. And stayed that way for a long time.

The Bricklin is another example. Now, I have always liked it, in is so nice in white..but, there is no market for it, and the car was not cheap when new.

I love gull wings. I still wish I could find a good cheap example of either one.

You know, I wonder what a used acura nsx goes for?

too pricy...I think it was around 60 the first two years. The draw was that you could drive it everyday.

yes it is essentially a modded cl type s engine....but changing the clutch is pricey as you must pull the motor to do so.....plus the first couple years didnt come with ps.....the new ones look sweet..they should throw in a honda v8 imo..... :D

Klegg, I don't necessarily think he intended to start a flame war. If you follow his short post history, the guy's only 18, yes, but almost all his other posts are positive remarks on the RX-8 (including his other thread that seeks to compile a tribute video to the 8).

Morales, in response to your question, last I checked, the badge on my car said Mazda, not Maybach, so of course Mazda is going to play the numbers as long as there is a market. I, however, withhold comment on my thoughts on the 8's uniqueness due solely to its engine (I drive an AT, so you can guess what my thoughts are, although my car has been a bit peppier lately in this warm weather...).

i still think our car is unique. i get happy seeing other 8's on the road. but there is no way that we will EVER see as many mustangs on the road. i'm actually tired of seeing the 05 mustangs now. everyone and their mom has one. Anyway, i love my car and don't really care how many others have it. it will just **** off more of the "ricers" who get jealous everytime they see an 8 while riding in their beat up civic or eclipse with coffe can exhausts and unpainted kit parts. :p

Actually that is exactly the type of crap he typically posts to start something. Make a comment about Mazda wanting to sell as many 8s as possible but don't post your aggressive rhetoric about needless trash like your last reply.

This happened when I bought my 6s exactly two years ago. Everyone turned their heads to see this new, black Mazda going down the road. Then as you know they came out in popularity just like most new models. The rotary engine and people's fears of it will always keep the numbers down. That is a plus.

Rowdy, when I first saw the 6's out, they always turned my head, although I couldn't figure out why because there was nothing overly special about them. I like those cars, though. My brother owns one now--those things are really spacious on the inside!

LOL, ouch... I thought *I* was driving the "expensive stuff."

But sure, I know whatcha mean... and yet there are a gazillion 30Kish sports cars around here, especially S2000s, 350Zs, and Z4s. I'm guessing the RX-8 just isn't snobby enough, being less well-known, and... gasp... a Mazda.

I can't wait to visit my parents up near Altoona (appalachia)... the only available vehicles up there are Cavaliers and F150s. The 8 is gonna look like it's from another planet.

The EVO and STI are performance versions of mass produced cars (Impreza and Lancer production numbers dwarf the RX8's). The Z is mass produced (and shares its platform and engine with numerous Infiniti and Nissan models). The S2k is the only low-volume, hand-built car of the bunch you listed.

The RX8 platform is shared with only one vehicle, and it’s another sports car (the upcoming 3rd generation MX5). Also, the RENESIS is built by hand.

Personally, I don’t care how many RX8s sell, as long as it’s enough for Mazda to keep making ‘em (in 5 or 6 years, I may want to trade in for a new RX8).

^^ What Deslock said.

I like the fact that they are unusual now. But I sing their praises to anyone who will listen, because I'd like to see more of them on the road. I want Mazda to still be making them in four years, and I want people to stop thinking it's a $50,000 car so they key it in the parking lot.

And a limited run is a two edged sword. I bet the delorean early adopters were a little bummed a year or two later.
Not at all, I want the people who bought the RX-8 because they love how it drives and is a great package to be happy. The people that bought it because of it's looks mostly or because they thought they would have some unique/rare car need a reality check. Think back to some of those old threads like "Will the RX-8 be a collectors item?", or the people that bought an RX-8 because they saw other cars all the time, or the people that would chime in to threads all the time hoping RX-8 production stopped because they wanted to be one of the few that had one.

Seems like far too many people in this community have some sort of resentment when they see another RX-8, or any other nice looking or fast car for that matter. You can bet the people that bash other cars all the time because it's "just a Neon", "looks like a bar of soap" or an "econobox POS" are not the enthusiasts that could care less what other people do and just want to enjoy driving their RX-8.

I was talking about the guy who started the thread..not you. I know when you are trying to start a war :p ...this was not that kind of post.

And I have to agree with eveything you said above. (sigh) You know I have had to find a whole new group of people to fight with in the lounge? I miss the old days...

ive had mine for a month only seen 3 including mine.... mainly because the cost of a factory loaded ride is at such a high dollar marker for people to buck up on. They figure why when the can get a car in the same class with all extras for so much less...

Rowdy, Ike can be a pain, but nothing he says is against forum rules. He also does not pick fights. Please don't pick them with him.
