So unfortunately i haven't taken the plunge yet in getting an 8.....but i will do so one day. Unfortunately the first gen will then have to go[/QUOTE]
If you don't even OWN one...what's with all the "WE were short changed" business? Just buy something else if it's got too many shortcommings for you, man. Plus, you act like there aren't after market TURBOs, Superchargers, NO2, etc. If 232 ponies aren't enough--go with a different powerplant.
I hear Tractors have tons of torque! Check out a John Dere or Peterbuilt...

This thread is lame and we've seen it many times before... But, how odd would it be if the Sentra and Altima were faster than the 350Z? It's pretty much the same scenario Mazda has and it hurts the image of the RX-8 even further. Mostly in the minds of idiots, but there are a TON of idiots in this world

pffsshhh, the RX8 gets all the attention by the onlookers and haters that I've seen/met. Who cares if mazda doesn't show any love by shooting more ads, that means less consumer attention and more rarety.....I'm rambling off and talking out of my ***, but I don't care, I love this car.

Fastest not the same as best…
#11 … RX-8 (Top 50 Driver's Cars, windingroad.com, Jul/Aug '05):
"Another “underpowered” car that works brilliantly, making you wonder whether 612-hp cars are really necessary. Like a fine French meal where the courses and pleasures just keep coming, the RX- 8’s rotary motor serves up a decent amount of punch and lovely soundtrack, and stretches it out long enough to enjoy it on the street. The RX-8 isn’t only about engine design either. It has a responsive chassis, with superior turn-in, relatively flat cornering, and a respectable ride. Combine that with Novocain-free steering and a very reasonable price, and you’ve got the sports car experience most people would want…"
RX-8 vs. 350Z Shoot-Out, edmunds.com
"So how did the jack-of-all-trades RX-8 manage to pull out a win over the all-powerful 350Z? Consider it a collaborative effort between its remarkable suspension, innovative engine and comfortable cabin. Hardly an unusual collection of traits, but the way in which they come together in the Mazda gives it a feel that the Nissan simply can't touch."
"The Z may be faster, but the RX-8 is the better sports car."
Automobile Magazine, April '03
"…but it's senseless to go looking for the nature of the RX-8 in the numbers. It's just not that kind of car. Instead, you need to drive it. Drive it around town, squeezing through holes in the traffic. Drive it around a corner, even if you have to apex in the bus lane."
"The RX-8 exhibits precision, efficiency, and imagination. Maybe it's because the Mazda people are real engineers, the kind of people who pride themselves on being able to do for a dime what any fool could do for a dollar."
"It's simply not like anything else, much like the rotary engine itself. Certain kinds of drivers will make their way to this car, and they won't be like Porsche, Nissan, or BMW drivers. They'll be after something else."

Don't feel bad, you could have bought a Porsche 928 whenthey 1st came out. Car of the year BTW in 1977.
Been the fastest most expesive "red headed step child" ever.
Absolutely the finest car I have ever owned. but with the engine in the wrong place and cooled by water it never gained the respect of the 911 crowd.

People always bitch about what they dont have. A lot of these cars compared to the 8 are FI cars. Most dont handle nearly aswell and most look like a box. Most cant compare on a track and most are built for a straightline race. Last time I checked the 8 was built for a track given its center of gravity. its weight, it handling, its rpm happy motor, its suspension. If it was for 0-60 or 1/4 mile times there would be no reason to have the setup the 8 has. Me typing this has no bearing on anything because some newbie is just going to sign an an be pissed because his parents bought a car that gets beat by x number of cars that aren't even in the same class as the 8. My rc car does 0-70 in about 4.5 seconds. Looks like I have to return my 8 because my little viper rc cars wins everytime and that only cost $500 to build.
Just for some thought. I ticketed a kid yesterday for street racing on a major road. His ticket was $515.50 and 8 points on his license. That same morning someone 19 yoa kid burned to death in a vehicle fire because he slammed his car into a tree. 0-60 and 1/4 mile times aren't worth loosing your life over.
