I allways hear differently...a friend got pulled over with his 350Z with a lowering kit and body kit, I should ask what if he got a ticket but from what I allways heard if they are noticed they get pulled over....

I also heard that someone with factory euro tail lights got pulled over and got a ticket and had to go fight it....I dunno thats one place I wouldnt want to live, just because of all the stories I hear....

there is no law as to how high or low you can put the body of your car if there was you wouldnt see the trucks where the body is 5 feet of the ground and they have to have a camera in the front to see if anyone is in front of them and the bagged trucks that drive around scraping the ground.

the biggest problem i have with cali is the window tint it can be 70% on the front 2 windows but the cops believe it has to be nothing on there at all and 70% sucks i had 2.5% on my exp sucked at night was a saviour during the day.

the cops just wanted a reason for pulling your friends over but couldnt find 1 theres alot of drunk driving here and no offence to anyone since i have been to court quite a few times and 99% of them were foreigners with no green card and no license pulled over for drunk driving. if your friends fit into the foreigners category then yes they were probably targets of ******* cops that just wanted any reason to pull them over

WHy is everyone telling her to stay away from RWD cars? My first car was RWD back in the 80's .. a 1978 Plymouth Volarie.. that car probably saved my *** more times than I can count because I learned to drive in it.. spinning out at 50 mph in the rain, running into guard rails, overpowering through a turn and jumping a ditch on river road by the missisipi River.. all that teaches one to be a better driver!

i appreciate having had a shitty car to start with. first of all, no one in my family could have afforded to get me an rx-8. But also, it allowed me the opportunity to make my beginner's mistakes and to get a little bit of the youthful stupidity out of my system before sitting down in a vehicle that would make it easier for me to kill myself and others.

my first car was a 1983 VW scirrocco found near the mexican border that i bought for $450. until the day i sold it, i was always finding pesos under the carpet and seats. i could "race" it without worrying about destroying transmission etc. i could pile in tons of school supplies and friends without worryting about cosmetic damages. basically, i was glad to have a car i didnt need to take care of yet.

if you/your parents can afford it, theres no reason the rx-8 wouldnt make a great first car. but for me, i was glad to have a first car that was NOT a financial burden should something go wrong.

my first car was a 1986 nissan pulsar :cringe: and then a 1987 monte carlo but im glad i had those cars to learn in and trash...but living in orange county as a girl she cant be caught driving a piece of ****

i live on a military base where alot of people come here and get their first car most of which are mustangs and camaros and also most of which are missing bumpers been in an accident or totaled so if you do decide to get an rx-8 as your first car becareful as u might not only have a fender bender but also a serious accident which could cause you or others harm

You know, just to add my two cents, my parents limited what I got as my first car because I was just learning how to drive. I got a toyota pickup truck. Granted they didn't buy it for me, but they paid my insurance, and wouldn't if I got anything fast.

All these years I thought they were just really strict, but the week I moved to North Carolina, I saw in the news that two 16 year-olds (one who just got his license) went joy-riding in their dad's rx-8. It was raining and they had no idea how to handle a rear wheel drive car. Went over a guard rail, fell 60 feet and exploded, killing both of them. The next month an accident on my road involved a sixteen year old girl who was racing against her boyfriend in her new Mustang. Fishtailed and wrapped it around a telephone pole.

Don't mean to be scary.. but I think that your rents would be a little foolish to give such a high powered car to someone with no experience driving. (No offense- we were all new drivers at one point).

the pulsar i busted out the oil pan which taught me a good lesson of how not to go over bumps and the monte carlo i bent the rim which taught me never to hit pot holes.

good thing is she lives in california so no rain, bad thing is she lives in california which means bad drivers.

The first thing you ought to think about is the cost of owning the car. If your parents can afford to give it to you with no responsibilities, good for them (but not necessarily good for you). 20mpg if you're lucky, $150+/mo insurance rates, burns oil, etc. That, and I consider the car friendly for an experienced driver, but not for someone new.

Also, this will make you want it more, but this car WANTS to GO GO GO. So, ask yourself what will happen when you get your first major speeding ticket, because it WILL happen if this is your first car. Not because it's the fastest thing around, but because once you get over your fear of it, it's just so easy to go fast.

Honestly, if I had a 16-yr-old daughter right now, and could buy any car I thought she needed, I'd get the RX8 for myself and give her my '03 Lancer. Solid, safe, easy to drive, good gas mileage, automatic transmission, and not as likely to tempt you into doing something stupid. I'm not saying you're prone to that, because I don't know you. I'm saying that human beings in general are prone to doing stupid things if they're fun, and the RX8 just might be TOO much fun. For cryin out loud, it was all I could do to keep from drifting in the parking lot on my first test drive.

I think the rx8 would make a good first car if you can afford the repairs.. It has power, yeah.. but it's up high and takes a little thought to get there.. Not like in my uncles old firebird where a foot twitch will have your tires smoking.

do you really want to have a bunch of kids driving on the streets next to you that barely know how to drive let alone drive a manual? imagine to accident rate if everyone only drove manual i would be scared to go out.

this girl i work with she isnt very bright she had something like a maxima AT that she could barely drive she went out and bought a scion tC MT 3 weeks later its totaled luckily she only hit the barrier HEAD ON instead of hitting 1 of the many cars around her and shes been driving for a couple years.

Well, my 8 is my first car, but I was 25 when I finally got a car. LOL I also pay for everything completely myself. I totally love my car but I worry about it everywhere I go, that somebody is going to damage it in a parking lot or hit me on the way there. When I go to work I try to find a parking spot next to the nicest, most expensive cars I can find because I figure the odds are much higher that they will be extremely careful not to do anything to my car or theirs. Yesterday I managed to park between a Porsche Boxster and a Porsche Cayenne. No marks on my car. If I just park anywhere I am quite likely to find smears in the dust (darn back roads!) like somebody brushed up against it, which I'm not too happy about. I've been able to take take it to work and park it now for a week and three out of the five days I found smears somewhere on my car that weren't there before, like someone brushed up against it. One day I found "faceprints" on my driver's side windows like someone was looking in. There was also a little note under my wiper that said "nice car." LOL I knew the person that did it, though. When I got to work I told him I had finally taken my own car to work by myself. He asked where I parked it so he could get a look at it in person.
