250 miles is too much for a new car! Think about it, even in normal terms that"s 10 25 mile demo drives! How normal is a 25 mile demo drive?? Nope, that is a used car buddy. It is entirely up to you what you do about it though. If you are happy with the car and the price, then so be it.

I can't believe they DROVE a car they wanted to sell new 50 miles and back to a car show, TWICE! And the quick reaction of the workshop smells a bit funny to me too, I think they know more about how the car was used for those 250 miles than they are letting on.

If you suspect the vehicle has been run hard, I would ask the dealer for an oil/filter change and to have the PCM flashed with the latest update (if needed) before delivering the car.

Hopefully after that you will have plain sailing. Enjoy!

What about the car they took the tranny out of? Oh I get it. They can sell it without one and then after the customer signs their life away they find out. Naaa just kidding.

did you get it back yet? I have heard of this before but not at 250 miles. However sounds like your dealer did the right thing.

Enjoy that 8

Sounds like you got a decent deal, and I agree the mileage is no big issue if it occured on four 50 mile legs. The tranny problem is way more serious of course, but it seems like they're doing the right thing. Shift carefully for the first few hundred, your engine may be partly broken in but the new tranny isn't.

While I'm blabbing, I'll repeat what I just posted on another new owner's thread:

1. Before you pick it up, make sure the dealer does all relevant recalls and TSBs. You'll find them listed here:
http://www.finishlineperformance.co...docs/index.html
Print out the ones that apply to your VIN/build date and let the dealer know you want them all done.

2. Oil/filter change. It's either nearly due or badly overdue, depending on whether they did one shortly after the break in period.

3. Check out the Oil Cooler/AC Compressor screens on this DIY thread:
https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-do-yourself-forum-73/diy-oil-cooler-opening-mesh-grille-replacement-8147/
This is a vital DIY if you want to eliminate the risk of non-warranty damage that costs $850+ to repair.

4. Zaino, Zaino, Zaino

5. Zoom, Zoom, Zoom

I got the car back today, seems perfect, thanks for the tips. I did not know the tranny had a break in period... as to where my old tranny has gone, it was shipped back to MAZDA as they havent had this problem yet (or maybe have had and are determining what to do about it) and shipping the dealer another brand new one. I believe I now have an 05 tranny on my car lol. Does anybody elses navi screen seem to have a slight lateral wavish flicker to it?
