Between the two versions I like the first better.
The hood is a little long on both though.
Part of the rotary benefit is a smaller engine.
you don't need a hood that long.

i was going to post that. but im not happy yet. need to smoothe out the rx8 front a bit more. why? look at it. sharp angle lines... then once you hit the doors, windsheild, and roof... BAM smooth curves. not sharp lines dont match with smooth curves

This is an excellent effort. I agree that the hood is a bit long, and the strakes and side vent are a bit overdone. You mentioned a convertible and, yes, I think it would make a great convertible. It would look great with the top down. A soft-top up might not look good since the coupe top is raked low (so it might be hard to emulate that effect in a soft-top); a retractable hard top might not have enough room to retract in the current design. Again, though, with the top down it would look fantastic.
