RX8 or Corvette (base)

If you guys had to choose between an RX8 or a Base Corvette.

Which would you choose and why ?

P.S. My choice would be the Corvette and my 2 reasons why are.
1) The corvette has tons more torque and Hp

2) And the corvette get the same if not better fuel mileage than the RX8.

I was under the impression that most vettes got like 14-15mpg at best. A lot of people get 20 quite easily in the 8.

That said, the corvette is a very nice car. I love the 8, but it would be tough if the vette is actually in your pricerange.

if you're buying a corvette for the price of an rx8

don't expect it to last long

and the 91-97 ones (finback) really love to catch on fire

what with the fuel tank being situated on top of the exhaust and stuff

From what I've been reading a 08 Corvette with 6.2L V-8 and the auto trans get around 22-23 mpg in mixed city - highway.

The question you have to ask yourself is do you want to go around corners or not.

The 8 will out-handle a base corvette any day of the week and still be able to seat 4 ppl that night when you're taking your friends to dinner. The vette will blow away the 8 in straight line speed, and has more street cred, but it's impractical as hell.

And I know for a fact that vettes can get 33 mpg on the highway while cruising.

you're seriously looking at black or white comparing these two cars, you need to decide which color you like the most. I'd take the rx8 any day of the week.

Since you are asking, it would be like asking me if I wanted to have sex with Jessica Alba, or be manraped by Ving Rhames.

The RX-8 is a car, a Corvette is a piece of steel with another smaller piece of steel dragging it around.

"Hey guys I was wondering if you would pick and RX8 or a Ferrari Enzo? I would prob. pick the enzo b/c it really fast and everything, but the 8 is still a good car"

Why do people want to compare the 8 to cars in a completely different league?

If you want to put the 8 up against the 350z sure, but come one man

The corvette is fiberglass bodied and most cars anymore have aluminum engine blocks.

There is a reason a corvette is considered a super car... no practicality and crazy power.

i've had the luck of driving a Z06 and i can tell you, the only thing you get out of owning a corvette is saying "Dude, i own a corvette!"

At the end of the day... /yawn it's no big deal. yes they are nice but i'd rather put money into an RX8 and make up the differences in performance that people may say exist between the two. of course you will never crank out the same amount of pure power as a vette from an RX8 but then no matter what you do with a vette, you wont get the comfort and driveability of an RX8.

Vettes are status symbols. Plain, Simple, Period. Does your ego need that much of a boost or would you rather put that effort into giving your Wankle a boost?

I love how people say that the 'vette has such good mileage(during cruise) over the 8 and therefore safe on $. I always wonder by how much in a year. Compare the Corvette's insurance and you will quickly realize how insignificant the mileage $ is.

Plenty of guys where I work come in with their vettes, and this one guy I know has a 2006 z06 and he claims he hooked up accessport and was getting 31 highway mpg. He said he always gets into the mid 20's driving city...

The only way I would do a Vette would be if it was a used one.
The C5's can be bought, driven, and sold without losing much money. They are fast and get very decent mileage. (about 27mpg average when I had mine)

Now if it is the C6 that you want (and who wouldn't, they have the new motor everyone loves) . . . . . . . be prepared to lose a TON of money.

Having owned both... it totally depends on what you want. The Corvette is an excellent car (well, the C4 sucked bad but not counting that) and is very powerful, surprisingly comfortable and the C6 can corner as well as burn rubber in a straight line. It's also much more expensive (by a lot) and EVERYONE where I live owns one. I see probably a dozen or more every single day, I'm not kidding.

The Corvette is a great car, I'll probably get another one some day, but its a completely different type of car than the Rx8, and the smooth rotary power with comfort and cornering the Rx8 offers is what I'm interested in right now. Do you like apples or oranges? That's what you are trying to compare here.

These threads should just get closed as soon as they're opened. OP isn't saying his price range, isn't saying what he's going to use this for, isn't saying which Vette or 8 he's looking at, and even tho he has 50 posts under his name doesn't seem to understand that people looking at Vettes or 8s don't put 'gas mileage' in as a criteria. I say buy a Vette so we don't have to worry about more of these ridiculous attention threads.

Hell - OP makes Taj seem sensible in this thread.
