RX7 vs RX8?

Hey wsup guys, sorry for the un-original user name but yeah, for some reason i couldnt log on to my old user name (crusingbluerx8) so i made this one. Well, anyways, to the main point.

I was on rx7club.com and i saw a thread like this and i just had to read it. Well, the some people on rx7club say some rx8 owners are arrogant. And i just found it disturbing seeing this because i know the roots of the rx8 and where it came from. I have great respect for all rx7 owners and myself am going to purchase a spirit R soon. Well, i couldnt just sit on seeing this post. Though, there are some people that don't know anything about the history of the RotaryXperiment generation, we should give our props to our "big brothers".

Myself, i really enjoy seeing other rotaries out on the road and when i see an rx7, i give them a head up knowing that their car is great and everything. I dont know, i just found it hard to grasp that there's competition between family. We are all rotaries and we are all family. Well, for me, there is no competition between both. Like they said in the thread, the two rotaries are on two different levels in the market. And for the few rx8 owners that don't know about the roots of rotaries, please go do some research.

For the rest of us here, if you don't do so already, give props to our older brothers! And lets be humble folks and not thinking we're better than any other vehicles out there (even if we are, hahaha [just kidding]) especially to our fellow mazda family members. If you're interested in reading the post of the "rx7 vs rx8", heres the link: http://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=450537

Well, i can't wait to see the new mazdaspeed 6's and next generation mx5's on the road! Thanks for reading!

Sorry for the unusual post and for wasting valuble time if i have.

-Jon

Yeah, I read this too and I was kind of wierd on the subject. It seems like some of them just want "respect"... they want us to get out of our cars at a red light and bow down to them. lol... and some of their terms saying that the 8 was a sedan really got on my nerves as well. The 8 is basically a sport compact like an RSX with the door cut in 2! There's a big difference between a sport compact and a family sedan. I also really like the RX-7s.. I mean who doesn't? But that doesn't mean that I have to hail them as king of the road everytime I spot one.

you know considering the renesis can breathe 2-3 times as well and has a higher redline, once there's an strong performance aftermarket for the rx8 the rx7 ( primarily the fd's ) won't look so tough. Most of these guys are running some seriously modded rx7's and are out there killing stock rx8's... it's kinda laughable.

Those of us who own both a RX7 and a RX8 may have noticed this: no squabbling between the two cars parked next to each other in the garage. My RX8 doesn't give my RX7 a hard time for only having 101 HP, nor does my RX7 give the RX8 **** for being "inexperienced" or for "farting out its side housings".

Seriously, I feel any cool or interesting vehicle on the road, especially nice 7's and 8's deserve respect! (even if their drivers don't sometimes)

I have both an RX-7 and an RX-8. I wave at all rotary cars as they drive by. I love driving both cars. They are 20 years apart but still a blast to drive.

exactly, they have to give us a little more credit atleast. I mean, we're new cars and all they can do is rag on us? Maybe some of them are jealous, maybe some of them really dont like us, but we're family.

On the road a few days ago, i saw a rx7 on the road, some 30 year old white guy was driving. We were side by side and i mean, i liked the things he did to his car, the rims and 99 jdm tail lights. And i waved but all he can do was give me the cold shoulder. One of the post on rx7club said that an rx8 thinks they're invinsible and stuck up or something like that but some of the rx7 owners are like that.

But again, i give props to all rotaries, and like KKmaniac said, "the cars deserve respect (eventhough the drivers dont)".

Actually, what I find most irritating about many (not all) FD RX-7 owners is their lack of knowledge about the RX-8. They put it down because it's not faster than the 3rd gen 7, but it was never intended to be another 7.

I've bought each gen of the RX-7 when it was new in its day, so I know exactly what the RX-7 is all about. Why should I bow down to them? These folks now have my old throw aways. If anything, many of these current FD owners should pay more respect to the original owners who helped make the RX-7 what it was. Without us original owners, the current 7 crowd wouldn't even have their toys to play with.

Peace, I love all rotaries!

And another thing, when these RX-7 owners talk **** about the 8, they don't realize they're shooting down their only hope of seeing the return of the 7. Kind of sad, because we're all part of the same rotary family.

EDIT: I'm not referring to anything said in that specific RX7.com thread, just seen lots of hating from some 7 owners on various websites.

very true hachi. I agree with you completely! Its only first gen rx8 anyway. Mazda has been known to do miracles between generations. Who knows, maybe in a decade, there will be no and FD but a faster and better 8 (spirit r rx8?) I cant tell the future but who knows.

You guys need some valium. There are jerks driving all kinds of cars. Most RX-7 owners I know love the RX-8. Don't try to paint us all with the brush used on the jerks! Thanks.

Oh, and SOME of us RX-7 owners know a -little- about the RX-8.

Lots of love to the RX8, coming from an FC owner. Once the aftermarket is established for the RX8, the FD guys will turn it down a notch.

And speaking of FDs, ive been hearing rumors that mazda is cooking up a coupe to come out in 07/08? I hope that car is the successor to the FD.

This is all true. I didnt say all rx7 owners nor did i call them jerks. Just the very very few. Most rx7 owners are cool about the rx8 and understand.

Hmm, i wonder if nissan 350z owners and 300zx owners are going through the same thing here?

Just to say again, i love the rx7 and rx8, i love all rotaries and respect all rotaries. I cant wait to get my spirit r!

I've been hearing a lot of that too sephiroth but mazda says a lot of stuff (much love to mazda). But to my knowledge and experience, the FD's are just older bro's now and wont be reborn. The FD's had a good run though and i want one so bad! :p But the 8 is great. My one true love right here

Just as an outside observer that doesn't own an RX-7 nor RX-8 I'd say more RX-7 guys lack respect and knowledge than RX-8 owners. Sure the RX-8 has more mass appeal so not eveyone will really know the history of what they're driving, but when you talk about the enthusiasts of either car I don't hear the RX-8 guys putting down any rotary car... Can't say the same about some of the guys on RX7club.

On another note, I ALWAYS get a wave from STi owners, maybe 70% or so from WRX owners (almost always from modded WRXs), and almost never from RS owners. The higher the performance and the more niche the market, the higher the likelyhood I get a wave. Same goes for the rotaries I'd imagine, there aren't many non enthusiasts out driving around FDs, but the same can't be said for the RX-8. It's a mass marketed car intended for a wider audience and the RX-7 guys that are complaining need to wakeup and realize that. If they have a problem with that then maybe they'd just rather see the roatry die, because that's what will happen if Mazda doesn't appeal to an audience larger than just rotorheads.

Do you live in Japan? That's the only country I know of that has the RX-7 Spirit R, a very limited run to celebrate the RX-7 and mark the end of the FD's era. Or perhaps you're getting it imported to you?

And for that matter, do you actually own a JDM MS RX-8 ver2? Those were also only available in Japan. If so, please post some pics!

But i thank you for that comment. I'm really flattered about it but sorry for the dissapointment once again.

Hey, people are arrogant. Hell, I'm arrogant. I'm pretty sure you're all arrogant to some extend as well. But we all learn to deal with it.
Personally, I love cruising by fellow rotary powered vehicles to take a glance at the driver only to see them smile/wave back. I love RX-7's, both the FC3s and FD3S alike. They are great for making awesome power and I'd love to own them as track day/sunday cars.
IMHO the RX-8 is a great daily driver. It's stunning. It's got great handling. It's so easy to drive and fun to boot!
But, it'd be nice if everyone could see it this way... but there's always other people that think otherwise. I say, let them be. Don't let them get to you. I have fun with my RX-8 and that's all that matters! ^^

Do you live in the US? If so, I'm very curious as to how you intend to make the Spirit R US street legal? It's not difficult to import a car like that from Japan, but the trick is making it US legal (crash testing, emissions etc.) so you can register it and drive it on the street. That takes huge bucks. I think there is a company that has done it for the R34 Skyline GT-R, but haven't heard of place that handles JDM FDs.
