RX-Replacement for $40,000

What is the best compact crossover to replace my RX-8 for $40,000 or less.

Unfortunately it's time.

Do you need awd? We had an Infiniti EX35 before trading it for the FX50.

Anyway, it's RWD. Handles great for its class, very nicely appointed, and best of all... The 3.5 liter 6 puts out around 310hp in that trim. Combined with the 7 speed auto my wife used to smoke our son in his R3 on the highway. Mostly because it really aggravated him. Lol.

I'm a big fan of the EX35.

Depending on your definition of "compact crossover" I'd say WRX STi hatchback might work.

In the true crossover class my vote goes to the mazda CX5.

check out the 2014 scooby forester. Supposed to rival, and surpass the CX5 specs.

I've never been a fan of Subaru styling and the CX-5 is soooooooo slow.

I need something that can still get up and go when you hit the gas.

I test drove the EX37 and floored it. I see what you mean.

I also test drove the BMW X1 and floored that, also very impressive.

Hmmmmm

Have you test driven the CX-5 with the new 2.5 liter engine?
It's quite a bit better than the 2.0.

Yesterday my gf and I took one on a very, very extended test drive (well over 110 miles), up into the mountains, and tested the living daylights out of it. The new engine has good power, even climbing steep hills, at over 9k feet.

Then again, if you need a compact SUV that does 0-60 in under 7 seconds, you might as well look at a used Porsche Cayenne.

BC.

Cadillac SRX. trust me, you wont be disappointed. They have the new CUE system and comes with the 3.6L V6 that has plenty of power and handles great for being a crossover.

Hmmmmm

I just ordered the X1 s28i, Msport for Euro delivery. The torque starting at 1250 rpm makes it feel like a diesel, and the gas mileage should average 50% more than RX8.

It's for the wife, but I'll be the one driving, and still have a 33k mile used RX8.

The X1 is claimed to be a rear wheel drive wagon ( I don't care for the 4 wheel drive versions) with crossover body to appeal to suv people. the center of gravity is low enough to take to track, and I'm pretty sure it's quicker than my 8.

The price is about $33k + ttl

I've got a 2010 Outlander that is pretty good. Maybe stop by a mits dealership to test drive one?

Really leaning towards an xDrive28i - Love the AWD with an 80:20 RWD basis on the M Sport model.

Only problem with it is that it looks like a photon torpedo on wheels.
