Me too. My favorite is the right-left chicane (two tight 90's) that is marked 15 mph. The RX-8 is also great for scaring the crap out of 3 people who don't know what it can do. :smoker:

Need me to go on, because there are still car manufacturers I haven't covered yet, and I haven't even gotten to older cars yet... All of those cars can trap 94 mph or above and will either beat or be close with the RX-8.

tuj 02-25-2006 01:40 PM

Yes, Ike is right. Just get a Rav4. So much better, 4wd and it can tow a BOAT!

Duh, Rav4s are the hawtness!

Roaddemon 02-25-2006 01:43 PM

Most those cars would be very close in power/weight as the rx8. A nick faster in the quarter mile means nothing. Most of us don't care to race and beat our cars at the drag strip anyway. The 8 can run in some good company and lays down it's power in such a sweet way. Only few will outright run away from the 8. My power cruiser VTX will mop up those few.

Also, just because a car is fast ina straight line doesn't mean it's a dragster, there are plenty of cars out there that handle well and are as fast or faster than the RX-8.

What kind of a "run for the money" are you talking about? Putting numbers on a board? If you want to compare numbers and that's your basis for the innate qualities of an automobile, then you're kinda-sorta right, noone in their right mind would drive or buy an RX8. People who DID buy an RX8 probably did so for different reasons, such as the overall quality of the driving experience, not whether they can beat a Maxima or a WRX across an intersection. As admittedly nice as a whole passel of sports sedans are, not a one of them anywhere near the RX8's price can match its' handling, brakes, or the "sports car experience" (even if the RX8 isn't truly a "sports car", but that's an argument for another thread). I say this as an inveterate buyer, owner and fan of sports sedans... Not pooh-poohing sedans at all, I like them very much and appreciate the magic act that auto engineers have performed in making the relatively mundane sedan platform play sports car when desired.

If you don't agree that zipping around in an RX8 is more a more pleasurable experience than muscling around a decent numbers-getter like, say, a V6 Honda Accord Coupe/Sedan or the aforementioned WRX, then I have to wonder why you're on this board... And if you bought an RX8, WHY you bought an RX8 when there were better numbers cars available when you went car-shopping.

Note I said CAR shopping. I reject outright your assertion that small SUV's are legitimate competition for the RX8.

Oh god, stop talking about your wannabe Harley. I'll gladly beat you in a race at the track of your choice if you stop talking about that silly bike. And for the love of god stop comparing a motorcycle to a car.

tuj 02-25-2006 01:52 PM

Ike's job is to inform us of how small and weak our feeble rotary car is, and to awaken us to the wonders of 4wd, evo's and wrx's.

In the words of the great bwob from the miata forum: if you can't go fast with 90 hp, 900 won't help.

People were talking about is how fast a car is, if you want to pull the twisty trump card fine, but I was just responding to other posts which were making the RX-8 out to be something out of the ordinary in the speed department. Also, I felt my WRX was more fun than the RX-8 and felt that way again when I bought a new car earlier this year when test driving the RX-8 and '06 WRX. Both are very good cars that go about their business in different ways.

FYI, I drive a modded Evo, and traded in a WRX for it. I've shopped the RX-8 twice and while I like the car quite a bit I obviously don't think it's the best car for me.

Roaddemon 02-25-2006 02:00 PM

Then stop comparing your crackerjack box car to my 8. At least my bike and rx8 have style.

BlueEyes 02-25-2006 02:05 PM

In your mind anyway.

Okay, I'll ask... You have nearly 5000 posts on a message board devoted to a car you don't own, have never owned, and passed on twice while car shopping?

:dunno:

Not that I have any problem whatsoever with the EVO or the WRX (although the last two styling changes left me totally cold). I talked a friend into buying the latter (this took very little prompting LOL) and like the former quite a lot, if not the "all race car, all the time" demeanor of the car, which is probably magnified when you "mod" it. I just don't understand why you spend so much time on a board for a car that isn't the best car for YOU.

Roaddemon 02-25-2006 02:09 PM

The majority.

I like the forum and I like the car, I've made a lot of friends here. I'd give you more reasons but I've answered this question many many times and quite frankly I don't need to justify my being here to anyone.

Raptor2k 02-25-2006 02:16 PM

No, the majority look at it and say "poor guy couldn't afford a Harley".

saturn 02-25-2006 02:23 PM

I like that people who don't have RX-8's hang around here. I mean, this forum is already a little biased when it comes to the 8. I've read "it's fine in the power department and nothing can touch it in the twisties" about 7000 times here. The fact is there are other cars in this price range that can outperform the 8 in every performance category. It's good for people to hear both sides of the story and not just the repetitive elated glee of new 8 owners.

Keep telling yourself that when a flock of 50 harleys pass you going the other direction on 94 this spring and you're riding by yourself.

A reminder: topic is rx-8 vs. rx-7
