RX-8 Trunk

Anyone see or hear about the storeage capacity of the trunk and/or interior bins and glovebox? Will it hold a set or 2 of golf clubs? I assume from the look of the rear window and the cut lines of the rear deck that the RX-8 has a trunk and not a hatch.

Capacity is 10.8 Cu. ft. and yes, it wil fit two sets of clubs as long as you don't have golf bags the size of Tiger Woods.:p

10.8 cu ft is good - I expected around 9.

Boowana - did you read this somewhere confidential or actually measure it? Or were you involved in the design...

Yeah Boowana, where did you find this? Also, what is the shape of the trunk?

Nothing's for sure in the seat department yet. i do agree, it would be a nice option.
With typos and all.

Considering the 3 series BMW gives ya 10.7 cu. ft of storage, that's not too shabby at all.

But everybody knows that it's HOW the space is set up, not how much there is.

I just had to dredge up the past here. this thread says the 8 has 10.7 cu ft of trunk space but the mazda brochure states a paltry 7.6 cu ft. does any one know why the disparity and what it really is? i know of mazdas extreame accuracy in regards to putting our the specs... note the sarcasm in my online voice.

Who cares? You can fit a crap load of stuff back there, and that's all I care about.
And as far as the golf bag question. If I can fit two golf bags in the trunk of my MR2 then the 8 will have no problem.

My experience... I put in two sets of golfs clubs in my 8 and drove down to San Antonio. Fit just fine. They weren't cart bags, though.

I didn't have the spare kit. Don't think it would make a difference.

You have to be careful with that....

If they're still alive they can hit the emergency release and get out

^^ Ha ha!

I'm a hockey goalie and let's just say that all my gear including legpads will fit in the trunk (coincidentally, my hockey bag is big enough to put a body in )

No spare tire kit and I can fit two golf carry bags in the trunk but you have to take the big drivers out of the bags to fit in the trunk opening (then lay the drivers on top). Can also fit one roll-on 22 inch suitcase on the trunk shelf with room for pre-mix and couple of quarts of oil. If you need more space for her luggage, there's always one back seat with the other for the car seat.

Plenty of room to travel with two adults and a child.

Just go down to the dealership and look at a used 8.

You can bring your stuff with you. Load it up and see how it fits.

Then take it out and tell the saleman you will think about it.

Just say, how many bodies can it fit... (Ask to see how many salesmen can fit in)
Ask how fast is it in a police chase... then make a low ball offer on the car in cash. :p

I just love the dip in the middle. It holds anything I ever throw back there in place when I ram through turns. Not big, but sufficient, I could see getting one gold bag in there. Who uses a trunk anyways hahah.

Be aware that the trunk opening is pretty small and may require some creative packing.

I just took a road trip with my girlfriend and everything seems to fit ok. I had to put everything in 2 smaller luggage and 2 gym bags. It also fitted a case of water but not much more then that. My girl shopped a little bit and we had to stuff everything in the back seat. Needless to say but the whole car was filled with crap on the way back from the 5 day trip. I hope you don't have a sparetire pack because that will be impossible to really fit anything.

It won't fit 2 sets of cart bags but the carry/stand bags will fit. I thought the trunk was pretty big compared to the S2000 and Miata then I got a Corolla S rental on business and realized it's actually pretty small.

I attached a milk crate with the buckle that held the tire repair kit. So the milk crate is not moving... and i just pack it with lose ends that dont flop anywhere.

LOL, I was going to say the same thing. It's a creative packing job but I get it all in there.

What do you do?
I put one leg pad in the dip, the sticks on top through the center part, a pad in the back of the trunk, and then I shove the bag in the space left over.
