I hardly leave my car keys in my house, if I dont have to drive that day, I will put my keys away, a place that I dont even know how can I come up with (shhhhh!)

I bet the dude who stole your car just want some joy riding .... parts demand for this car is pretty low (if you compare to Lexus's headlight and Camry's Tranny)

I will do what other's suggested, call around and let them know what happened. You might get something back.

I got a delivery yesterday that I just confirmed with DHL, was left at the front door but I found it on the side of the house where they came in.

Damn! probably not to smart to leave it at the front door - a sure sign no one is home.

I did have my keys with me but the found my spares

The real solution now is to get home security system.

ANyone have any advice on how to deal with the insurance company - should I get a lawyer?

Nope, just call your insurance company, tell them what happen.

You have full coverage, right ?

Mind if I ask you where did you put your spare ?

Cuz most people are dumb enough to leave them at common places like *under the carpet/behind the clock, etc

I left mine at ..... heh , trust me, I can give you a week to search my house, if u can find my spare, I will give you my car

Call you insurance and find out how long the wait period is before they pay out for stolen. Some will do it right away, so require a week or more before they'll consider a car unrecoverable.

Whatever the day is make sure to call them on it and ask what they'll be paying you. DO NOT ACCEPT THEIR FIRST OFFER! Most insurance companies will come in with a lowball offer, counter it if you feel it's too low.

You'll only need a lawyer if you feel your insurance company is trying to rip you off, otherwise it should be pretty easy. You've most likely aggreed to arbitration anyway when you signed your insurance agreement.

At least you were insured, that's a good thing. I had a decent S13 240SX as a second car, I loaned it to my sister for a few months and she put it on her insurance. When she no longer needed it she gave it back and took it off her insurance. It was sitting for a little over a week in front of my place but I hadn't added it to my insurance policy yet (I wasn't driving it). On Christmas day I went to visit some family, came home that night and it was gone. Police never found it. I'm out one 240SX.

Well in the meantime...
Got a call from the sheriffs office and they found it, near my house in the woods. It's a little worse for ware, damge to the front and back, hood, the spolier if detached and haven't get a good look inside yet but the leather around the shifter is all ripped

Congrats on getting it back though.

Sounds like they couldn't drive stick and ripped up the shifter in frustration or some bullshit.

Once again +1 to manual tranny cars eh?

did you ask the cops to print the car before you jump in it and drive off to get it fixed?

Glad they found it. Hope it wasn't in too bad of condition. Keep us updated with the police and insurance.

We should be happy our 8 is not a chop shop special like most Toyotas and Hondas or we'd be seeing these stolen threads all the time.

Aw man! That's awesome that they found it! I hope it's not ripped up too much and that you can get fixed back up without any problems.

Thanks again everyone!
I will keep you up to date.

For the person that asked about taking prints from the car - there were still some items taken from my home inside the car, so they took those to try to get prints off of.

Man. That sucks. Good to hear that they've already recovered the car!

I have been really slack about leaving mine outside at night lately. This was all I had to see to get me to leave it in the garage all the time!

I just had Brinks install a home security system. I recommend them highly.

Good to hear that you got your car back. Why would the shifter leather be torn up??? Ha ha ... if they were trying to steal that, they would have a bitch of a time removing the console cover (I know I did when I replaced my shifter). Perhaps the idiots didn't know how to drive manual and gave up. Hope sheriff catches them and that they get new abusive boyfriends in jail.
