RX-8 Shinka

Just bought mine on July 4th, Happy Independance Day! lol

I was wondering if anyone else had the Dealership offer extra accessories or anything? (i.e. PhatNoise system, Polished Fender Strakes) My dealer didn't mention a word and now I want to look into ordering them. I have to bring my car in next week anyway to add the spoiler, moon roof deflector, lojack, clear bra, etc. Does anyone else have the strakes or the phatnoise...and if so do you like them?

Also, has anyone thought of adding a forum for Shinka's? Just a thought

I was able to haggle free oil change for 2 years. At about $300 value it's not a bad deal.

Follow some of the nice DIYs in this forum. Enjoy your new Shinka.

Now if they only had made an option on the Shinka to have two-toned Parchment/Black cherry seats!

I think that moonroof deflector really detracts from the look of the car. Be careful with that one.

you should be able to take off at least $2000 aside from any rebate Mazda has from the sticker especially this time of the year. If they don't want to then take your business somewhere else.

BTW I like my parchment leather as is, thank you...

The best I found around my way was 200 below invoice on a regular RX-8 with GT, nav and spoiler. Most wanted over invoice. The 2k rebate was on an AVP (lease?) only.

Be careful with the clearbra - the dealer's going to install it? What brand is it, what's the installer's experience, etc. Enjoy the Shinka.

I test drove cars with and without it, and I swear it did not seem to make any difference in wind or noise - so it might be a pass even if you don't mind the look.

Love the interior of the Shinka, just can't stand the paint color - and the fact that it is a standard color on the Miata! To each his or her own, other than the color I love the Shinka.

Lol Thats good, Enjoy your new Car. Its just i know that the tan color of leather would not last with me, if i were to get that car I'd be making sure EVERYONE that steps into the car have clean hands, shoes, and clothes.

Welcome to Shinka ownership. I beat you by a couple days, picked mine up on the 2nd, and have been enjoying it greatly since. I'd definitely think hard about the sunroof deflector, it does take away a little from the look of the car in my opinion and the sunroof is pretty good with being low noise by itself. The strakes look great, I need to get myself a set of them, along with clear side markers.

EsCoBaR1: So, you would let people with dirty hands, shoes and clothes in your car as long as the interior wasn't light colored? Dirty is dirty, whether you can see it easilt or not. I wouldn't want that in any car. What good is a dark seat with lots of dirt and grime you don't notice, when you have on a nice white shirt and get it all over you? Keeping a car interior looking like new is not really that hard, as long as you don't mind taking the extra few seconds to clean up a spill or take your trash and throw it away.

I definitely prefer the single color parchment and I would go thumbs down on the deflector as well. I'm not into the strakes neither. I do want to get the RX-8 third brake light lens as well as the protective screens for the coolers. Would also like to get black tail pipe extensions to replace the chrome ones..anyone seen any?

As for extras from the dealer, I had the special clear treatment put on as well as the interior treated and the undercarriage coated for protection as well as additional noise reduction.

To each their own...personally, I love the Black Cherry sparkle.

Cheers!

I hope you didn't PAY for any of that, did you? All that stuff is worthless and can often do more harm than good. Never let them put that stuff on a new car, and for sure don't pay for it. Wax your car 2x a year or more often (depends on climate), keep it clean and treat the leather and you don't need anything else.

True on the colors - they make a lot of different colors trying to make everyone happy. My loaner 8 has the red and black leather interior, and while this looks really good in the pictures - I am glad MY car does not have this combo. It has worn out its appeal to me - but I see folks here posting they are looking all over for a red/black interior car

Enjoy your new car!

Dennis

I don't let the kids wear shoes in mine. I also would think about the strakes a lot as well, they are definately going to date the car. 10 years from now you wont see anything with strakes.

Sorry, I was offline for a few days. I'm not going with the strakes. The dealer outsources the Clear bra and Window tint to Precision in Colorado. I like the look of the spoiler and the moon roof deflector. I guess it is a personal option. I am glad to hear the phat noise wouldn't have worked cause I was kinda bummed. I am looking into the window tint to see if they have a black cherry colored tint. Might look cool. Otherwise it is a dark black for sure.

Oh I forgot, while I was washing and detailing, I noticed that in the rear wheel well they have more of that sound dampening material. Does it require any special care? I can't imagine constant water and such would be good on it.

Thanks for the reply, was a little worried.

Did anyone else have a dealership give you the option to add LoJack?

One more question (sorry).
I noticed that the driver seat has a side to side wiggle on when cornering. Is this normal?

Thanks for all the answers!

LoJack was offered and declined. As was the special paint sealer, interior sealer, and undercoating - no, no, no! No wiggle's in the seat - had it in my Volvo S80, quite irritating after they couldn't fix it over the course of two visits.

Same here, but with only four available in Colorado, no dealerships were negotiating. I didn't do a trade in, and the $2000 back was only on lease, and I know I am keeping my new baby! My poor Miata feels neglicted.

Sticker was 34,000. I looked at one that was more...but who really wants/needs a cassette player??

Does anyone have an 8 with the moonroof deflector? I was hoping someone could post a pic

LoJack is fine in theory but in practice the "insurance" of having it is too expensive. The dealer wants ~$700 for it and my insurance will go down by ~$50 / year for having it. That means it will take 14 years to pay back - way too long. They try to sell it by saying that cars with LoJack are on average recovered with only $2000 of damage versus $6000 of damage for non-LoJack cars. Well, that's nice but both of those amounts are over my deductible so any savings is going to the insurance company. If the LoJack would pay back in insurance rates in a reasonable time (maybe 4 to 5 years) then I would consider it.
