is rx-8 the right car for me ?

ok guys i know this is my own decision . i just need some opinion about the car. i was in love with this car for so long . i just sold my car 2 days ago . now i'm looking at the used rx8 around my area. i want the 2005 but it hard to find one at a decent price . 2004 model years suppose to have some problem but i heard it's wont be that bad since they got it all fix . but which one do you think i should get ? 2004 or 2005 ? i'm 19 now and i will go to my college about 17 miles away , 3 days a week . if i drive the rx8 at a normal style can i pay for the gas at about 200 a months ? i work to pay for the car and gas . the reason i ask this is i want the rx8 so bad . i dont want to buy some other car cause i dont want to feel regret when i see the 8 pass by . but is the rx8 that bad . i mean i know about the rotary and stuff . i will take care of it . it wont kill me to do the maintanance for the car . i just know how to drive stick recently and i will be driving the rx8 if i buy it . will the car flood or damage to the engine if i stall it ? thank you if you can give me your opinion

2005. i get 18 mpg, most of us do. if you can live with that, then get the car! if you're in to aftermarket parts, expect to pay a bit more for aftermarket products. looks like you're doing your homework so i assume you already know to add oil every other fill-up or so. get the recalls done as soon as you get the car. since you're just learning to drive stick, it would be a good practice to have the car warmed up (temp gauge near half-way) before driving it.

I have a 2004 MT, I love it. Yeah, there were the initial kinks to work out since I bought one of the early models. But all is fine and if you buy from a dealer, they should have everything updated already (being they are honest). I personally get between 20-23 mpg. I don't hold back when I drive, my engine just likes me I guess.

You're going to school and money is at least a little bit of a concern, get a beater. Beer money >>> car money, and you will need all the money you can get in college. Then put all that time you would have spent working to pay for your car into studying and partying.

I am infatuated with my car.

Anytime I go out I try to use our other vehicle when I take my new puppy with me. When I park my car I always take a double glace back to see what it looks like...as if I haven't seen it enough

I clean my car everytime I see dirt. I will not drive it if it is too dirty...therefore causing me to wash it before I go out. THere is a lot of sand from construction around so my baby gets dirty pretty often.

Needless to say...this is an awesome car. You will regret it if you don't get it. The good out weights the bad so just buy it!!

College first then car. Once you graduate the car will be a whole lot cheaper and there will probably be something better and badder once you have job to pay for it.

dude, I thought you said you knew about rotaries? If you did then you would know the Renesis is a different animal and not like the 13b-rew in the 3rd gen FD RX-7's that needed rebuilds every 80,000 or so miles. The Renesis is stronger and better. Do some more research before purchasing.

But some other things to consider:

-Gas is expensive. You don't want to be stranded because you can't pay for gas. In college money is TIGHT unless you have rich parents or loans

-Insurance for the 8 isn't too bad (depending on your deductibles and coverage) but it would be a lot cheaper for a beater- say an old Honda. Nothing worse than getting a $16,000 car, getting in a wreck, then not being able to pay your $1500 deductible because you're a college student.

-Getting a 2005 will give you an extra year of warranty and probably have less miles. The 04 you quoted is nearly out of warranty due to mileage. The warranty is 5-years/50,000 miles on the powertrain. Getting an extra year and more miles is nice when you're in college.

-The 8 is a little more expensive to maintain than a Honda. Change your oil more often, you have to top off the oil due to the oil injection system, and you can go through tires pretty quick.

-Finding a good mechanic to service a Renesis can be difficult depending on where you live. Even some rotary mechanics well versed with RX-7's don't like the Renesis (sometimes). So you're stuck with dealerships most of the time and they will (mostly) rip your *** off.

Just some stuff to consider....

rx8s powetain is 5 year SIXTY thousand, not 50, so he wouldnt be that close to bein out, but id find the newest u can.

insurance isnt so bad, but gas is a bitch so u have to kno that before u buy. i swear half the ppl on these forums didnt test drive the thing b4 they bought it.

i get 13 mpg, i do 90% city driving and i am frequently abusive (in an rpm sense, not clutch drops and drifitng) so my mpg is gonna be more in tune with urs....for example...im 21, i drive like im 21, u being 19, ull drive like ur 19. not to insult u or anything but these ppl gettin 18-23 mpg in city/highway must drive like total bitches!!!

if u dont mind oil/gas consumption or low torque, then by all means go for it. reason i bought mine was bc i figured "u only live once" and by the time ur older, ull get married and have a house and kids and u wont be able to get back into a sports until ur too old to....get back into a sports car!!!!!!!

sports cars....especially rotary sports car, should be for kids!!!!!! beat it up to avoid flooding, get it hot b4 u shut it down......this applies most strictly in climates under 50 degrees......

the rx8 NEEDS abuse, thers an old sayin someone here made up....a redline a day keeps the tow truck away
